Small town Mississippi is home to lots of hidden gems. It’s also where you’ll find a couple of famous, well-known businesses, such as Paul’s Pastry Shop. The decades-old bakery whips up king cakes that are known around the globe. Take a look:
Tucked away in the small town of Picayune, you’ll find a renowned bakeshop known as Paul’s Pastry Shop.
The bakery first opened its doors in 1970. Over the years, it’s grown from a 100-square-foot bakery into a national sensation.
Today, the full-service bakery boasts display cases full of goodies as well as a café, party room, and wedding planning suite.
However, despite everything Paul’s has to offer, it’s the king cakes that have put the bakery on the map.
The famous king cakes are a highly sought after treat – and not just during Mardi Gras. Unlike many bakeries, Paul’s king cakes are available year-round.
Although, the number of king cakes produced does greatly increase during the carnival season, at which time the bakery churns out thousands of king cakes a day!
Over the course of a year, Paul’s sells upwards of 60,000 king cakes, which are shipped all over the country.
So, what makes Paul’s cakes so special? Well, for starters, the bakery is credited with inventing fruit and cream cheese-stuffed king cakes.
Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the bakeshop offers over 40 king cake flavors, which include everything from traditional fillings to regionally-inspired concoctions.
