Recently, Forbes named the "10 Best Restaurants of 2016." The list included restaurants in huge cities, like Miami, Brooklyn, and Las Vegas, as well as one restaurant in a small town in Mississippi. That’s right; Mississippi’s very own Darwell’s Café landed a spot on the list, and once you take a closer look at the one-of-a-kind eatery, you’ll quickly see why (and want to visit).
A true hidden gem, Darwell’s Café is tucked away in the small town of Long Beach.
Despite its remote location, the coastal eatery is almost always jam-packed, especially on the weekends when a long line out the door is not uncommon.
It has even been visited by Guy Fieri and his television show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Fieri loved Darwell's crawfish etouffee so much, he included the recipe in his cookbook.
Not only a favorite of Fieri's, the crawfish etouffee is the restaurant's most popular item.
Coming in second is the Crab Melt Sandwich - fresh blue crab meat, ham, and Swiss served warm on grilled Texas toast.
The shrimp, which are said to be some of the "best in the world," are also extremely popular.
As is the wide selection of fresh wild caught seafood, which comes straight from the Gulf of Mexico.
But with a southern-inspired menu that includes everything from BBQ to po’ boys, you really can't go wrong at Darwell's.
Even the desserts, which are baked specifically for Darwell’s by a local pastry chef, are brag-worthy and definitely worth saving room for.
Aside from the food, it's the laid-back, eclectic atmosphere that makes a lasting impression on Darwell's diners.
The eatery is made up of several dining rooms, all of which are decorated with colorful lights, whimsical art, and other unique items.
There's also plenty of outdoor seating.
Aside from a great setting, the outdoor area is the perfect spot to catch some musical entertainment, which takes place nightly.
