Once extremely popular, tea rooms now seem to be a thing of the past but they’re not completely obsolete, and luckily, Mississippi is home to several. Offering everything from specialty teas to mouthwatering meals, a visit to any of these charming tea rooms is practically guaranteed to be a (tasty) treat. Take a look:
1. Simply Teavine (6775 US 49, Hattiesburg)
Beautifully decorated and housed in a log cabin that dates back to 1885, Simply Teavine definitely lives up to its tagline, "Hattiesburg’s historic and elegant tea room." Aside from specialty loose leaf teas, the menu is brimming with standard tea time treats, including fresh baked scones, biscuits, and muffins. After your tea, be sure to check out the gift shop, where you’ll find lots of unique merchandise and tea accouterments.
2. Cottage Tea Room (109 E. Washington St., Aberdeen)
Housed in a restored 1920s Sear’s cottage, this Aberdeen gem offers great meals in a setting to match. Though you won’t find traditional tea at this tea room, you’ll find plenty of sweet tea along with a delicious fare that landed the eatery a spot on Mississippi Magazine's list, "The Best Places To Have Lunch."
3. Chancellor’s House Tea Room (425 S. Lamar Blvd., Oxford)
If it’s an authentic tea service you’re after, consider paying a visit to Oxford’s recently opened boutique hotel Chancellor’s House. Aside from a lounge and grill, the luxe hotel’s dining options include a Tea Room, which, in addition to daily afternoon tea service, offers a delicious fare in a refined environment.
4. Martha’s Tea Room (2113 Government St., Ocean Springs)
From the moment you arrive at Martha’s Tea Room, it’s clear you’re in for a real treat. Aside from being located inside a historic Victorian home, the eatery’s interior is decorated to look like an actual English tea room. Even more impressive than the décor is the homemade fare, which includes breads, desserts, and daily specials.
5. High Biscuits (7048 Old Canton Rd. #1008, Ridgeland)
Despite having only been in business for a few years, High Biscuits is already a local favorite. Bound to be unlike any other tea room you’ve visited, the Ridgeland eatery promises a "deliciously southern take on classic European tea service." Browse the menu, and you’ll find everything from Earl Grey cream tea to chicken salad.
