A Minnesota craft cocktail bar, The Velveteen in Stillwater, serves up a full menu of unique and modern twists on classic drinks. The only trick is finding it.
The Velveteen is located in a historic warehouse building one block off Stillwater’s Main St. shopping district.
Enter on the 2nd St. side of the building, and look for the golden Rorschach rabbits.
Then follow the stairs down toward the music emanating from a Victrola speaker.
On a busy night, you may be greeted at this point. Otherwise, just walk on into The Velveteen.
It’s designed to exude the feel and atmosphere of a 1920s-era speakeasy.
The real show, though, happens at the bar.
The superbly-trained staff of mixologists are experts at their craft.
They use fresh ingredients and carefully chosen spirits to work their magic.
These become classic cocktails that you might have found in a pre-Prohibition lounge.
Many of The Velveteen’s recipes, however, update or add unique twists to the drink you think you’re ordering.
It’s not all about the drinks, though. The Velveteen offers a menu of light and heavy bites for you to munch on while you enjoy your beverages.
You’ll also find regularly scheduled live music and other events, like game nights, at The Velveteen.
Stay up to date on hours, menu, music, and special events via The Velveteen's Facebook page. A stop at The Velveteen is a perfect way to cap off a day of shopping and exploring in the historic St. Croix River town of Stillwater, which has one of the most walkable downtown areas in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Have you visited The Velveteen? If so, do you think it's one of the best bars in Stillwater? What are some other bars or taverns in Minnesota with unique drink menus?
