Minnesota is most known for Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Duluth. But there are more than a few towns in the Land of 10,000 Lakes that have a claim to fame all their own. One of the most famous small towns in Minnesota is in the east-central part of the state. Not only is the town charming, but it's also considered the homemade pie capital of Minnesota. If you stop in at the right time, you'll be overwhelmed by all of the fun festivities - and delicious pie options. Take a look:
Braham is a tiny town that is home to around 1,800 people. It's about 60 miles from Minneapolis if you drive north on Highway 65.
Despite its small size, Braham has a charming downtown area. Restaurants like the Park Cafe are popular, as are local shop like the long-standing thrift store Tusen Tack.
There's even a cute park - complete with a gazebo -where you can take a moment to enjoy the small-town charm of your surroundings.
It is at this same park where, every year, Braham's status of the Homemade Pie Capital is celebrated.
Braham has been famous for its pie since the 1930s when travelers would stop for pie at the Park Cafe. Today, this legacy continues on the first Friday in August every year. In 2019, Braham Pie Day is on August 2.
There are many Pie Day festivities, including some that are not related to pies at all. In the past, a classic car show has been a popular event. Other activities include a quilt show, a pie tin art contest, and more.
Of course, pie is the star of the show at Pie Day. A pie-baking contest invites locals to compete to make the most delicious pie in town.
There is also plenty of opportunity for creativity! Beautiful, unique pies have been stars of the show for years.
There's even a pie-eating contest! What better way to try some of this town's famous pies?
Of course, there are many opportunities to enjoy pie without getting messy. There are plenty of pies ready for your to take home. Or if you just can't wait, enjoy a slice on the spot!
