Being the Land of 10,000 Lakes, it makes sense that Minnesotans have more than a few riverfront or lakefront restaurants to choose from. Guests can choose to drive in to enjoy the waterside scenery, or boat in and enjoy it every mile of the way. But there's one restaurant in Minnesota that doesn't give visitors a choice to drive. In northern Minnesota, you can only get to the Sportsman's Oak Island Lodge by boat. But the trip is totally worth it — the food is delicious!
Sportsman's Lodge is a small group of lodges in northern Minnesota. There are three in total, each just about as far north as you can go in Minnesota.
But the Sportsman's Oak Island Lodge is perhaps the most remote. It is only accessible by boat!
The lodge is located on Oak Island, 38 miles from the main lodge in Rainy River.
You can only get to it by boat, most often from Angle Inlet. You can only access this part of Minnesota by crossing through Canada!
Of course, you're not going to travel all that way without spending the night. Each of the Sportsman's Lodges has comfortable cabins and beds. The Oak Island lodge has a capacity of 44 people, making it the perfect place to get away from it all.
But beyond sleeping and fishing, you're going to have to eat. Luckily, Sportsman's Oak Island Lodge has a comfortable dining area, complete with indoor recreation.
And the food is outstanding. On the menu, you'll find everything from your favorite comfort foods...
...to something a little more special.
The fresh walleye is out of this world. Given the island location, that should come as no surprise!
Of course, you're also in the perfect place to catch your own fish. What could be better than frying up your own catch of the day?
All in all, this remote restaurant is well worth visiting —especially if you crave a comfortable, nature-filled vacation.
