Everything seems to be more expensive today than it was even just a few years ago - especially in larger cities. Those of us who live in the Twin Cities certainly felt the pinch. That's why long-time fans of a venerable and iconic Minnesota diner in the charming town of Hopkins winced a little - I know I did - when its prices went up a year or two ago. In the scheme of thing, though, my concern was unfounded, because even with the price hike, almost everything on the menu at Hoagie's Family Restaurant is still under $10.
Hoagies Family Restaurant has been satisfying customers on Hopkins' historic Main Street for more than six decades.
This iconic diner is a staple for lunch and breakfast crowds, including weekday workers, weekend shoppers, and seasonal visitors to the weekly farmers market, which takes place just across the street.
The decor is classic diner, with toys, tchotchkes, and walls full of pun-laden signs throughout the eatery. There's even an 80s-era television in the corner that plays reruns all day long.
Weekdays tend to be a little quieter - especially after the lunch rush - but you can expect to wait for a table on weekends. Hoagies is open daily until 2:30 p.m., and you can get breakfast all day. And the beauty of it is that no matter what you order, it's probably going to be under $10. As of this writing, the only thing on the Hoagie's menu that hits double digits is the steak salad, which comes in at $10.50. On the breakfast menu, steak and eggs is the most expensive item; it'll set you back $9.90. And portion sizes? Not small. You won't leave hungry.
You definitely won't be disappointed with a visit to Hoagie's Family Restaurant in Hopkins. For a glimpse at the menu or to order online, take a look at the restaurant's website. Historic downtown Hopkins is a wonderful day trip destination or even a great place for a weekend getaway - especially if you're a fan of thrifting or antiquing.
