The almighty chicken wing. It's most often the centerpiece of any Superbowl game. While plenty of pizza joints offer wing dings on their menus, sometimes you want a wing that's just a little more... special, especially now that you've got a living room full of hungry football fans.
We did some research and came up with some of the very best wings for you and your Superbowl Sunday guests. If you haven't already picked some up, or if you've got a few more visitors than you expected, we suggest you check these out and run to your nearest wing shop now.
9) Wing Heaven, multiple locations, west Michigan
Because you want your wings to come from a higher plane. Choose from scorching hot, mango habanero, raspberry pepper, honey mustard, and others. You also get your pick of regular, boneless, chicken tenders, and even gizzards.
8) Blue Tractor Barbecue, Traverse City
Cider-brined and house-smoked, these flavorful wings are smoked for 12 hours and come available in one or two pounds in house-made Buffalo or BBQ.
7) Brann's Steakhouse and Grille, multiple locations, mostly west Michigan
This spot is know for its sirloin steaks, but we suggest you give their tasty wings a shot. Available in orders of eight or 12, come in a variety of interesting flavors like Sriracha, "Bang Bang," "Dirty Ranch" (Buffalo and ranch), and Kentucky Bourbon.
6) City Wings, Detroit
Gourmet Amish wings, available in snack size portions (10 pieces), up to the "Triple House" order, comprised of 120 pieces and up to eight flavors. Choose from 18 sauces, ranging from mild traditional Buffalo flavor, to the super spicy "K.O.," the "Teri-Que," which blends BBQ sauce with Teriyaki, and the "Caribbean Jerk."
5) Your Mother's Food and Spirits, Mount Clemens
Locals of Mount Clemens swear by the wings at this classic bar. They're fresh delivered, seasoned, hand breaded, and then twice fried to ensure tenderness. Get as little as 12 and up to 100 at a time. Choose from three categories of sauces: BBQ, signature, and hot. Each category features several options, including the ginger BBQ, the signature "Ranchero," and the "Devil" hot.
4) Crunchy's, East Lansing
At this college town staple, you get your choice of bone-in, boneless, or fingers, and pick any one of their "Sauce Gone Wild" flavors, including spicy garlic, "Asian Sensation," or the house-made stout BBQ sauce.
3) Sporty's Wing Shack and Smoke House, Saginaw
With two dozen sauce flavors, ranging from "plain to pain," including "Point of No Return," "Dragon Honey," "Smokin' Cherry," and "Napalm." As these titles suggest, these sauces are all kinds of spicy.
2) Wings and Things, Dexter
As the name implies, this spot offers a variety of chicken wings, and well, other things, like chicken tenders, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Wings come in your choice of bone or no bone, and a few different flavors like the "Hot Suicide" (very hot), Teriyaki-garlic Parmesan, and "wild" with BBQ and hot sauces.
1) Sweetwater Tavern, Detroit
Widely proclaimed the best wings in all of Michigan, these things come from a simple recipe. Wings are brough in fresh every morning from Eastern Market. They come in one simple, spicy flavor, but they're marinated for 24 hours so the flavor is rich and lasting.
They're so wildly popular that Sweetwater says they go through 15, 40-pound cases everyday.
Our mouths are watering uncontrollably with the thought of that spicy, vinegary flavor...
