It’s a well-known fact that Bay Staters go crazy for a good hunk of lobster or a buttery lobster roll. We’re also slightly obsessed with ice cream. It shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, then, to learn that one shop in Massachusetts has combined the two into the ultimate frosty treat.
Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium is a quaint candy and ice cream operation that has a few different storefronts in Massachusetts, but they all offer the same unique sweet treat: ice cream made with real buttered lobster.
The lobster ice cream at Ben & Bill’s isn’t made with gummy lobster or simply colored pink. Oh, no. It’s created using real Maine lobster that is cooked, picked clean, buttered, and then folded into vanilla ice cream. The ice cream itself is also butter-based, which makes it obscenely indulgent.
So the real question: how does it taste? Though the flavor combination is definitely an odd one, the end result is shockingly addictive. The ice cream has a sweet, rich flavor that perfectly complements the tender taste of the lobster. If you like lobster doused with melted butter, you’re almost guaranteed to like this ice cream.
If lobster isn’t quite your style, Ben and Bill’s offers a whole range of quirky and classic ice cream flavors to tempt you, along with shelves of candy and other sweet offerings. You can also pick up handmade chocolates and fudge to take home or enjoy on the premises.
But seriously – ask for a sample of the lobster ice ream and you won’t be disappointed.
