Here are some of the best places to get an absolutely amazing slice of pie in Massachusetts. From traditional local flavors to unexpected taste combinations, these shops are peddling some seriously incredible slices. Pie road trip anyone?
1. Petsi Pies, Somerville
Go here. Just go. They only use all-natural ingredients and the whole place smells like your grandma's kitchen at Thanksgiving. Get the sweet potato pie and then order a slice of the southern pecan pie to go. Or eat them both at the same time. Doesn't matter, just grab your keys and go.
2. Centerville Pie Co., Centerville
Just look at that flaky crust. Divine. This place understands all the elements that make a perfect pie: melt-in-your-mouth crust, gobs of filling, and just a hint of buttery saltiness. And on top of all that, their pies are gorgeous to look at. Try the classic cherry pie after having one of their many savory pie for dinner.
3. Flour Bakery + Café, Boston (and other locations)
Delicious pies are just the beginning at this acclaimed gourmet bakery, but the pies are an incredible place to start. Try the double-crust apple pie (yes yes yes) and save room for a heavenly steaming slice of blueberry pie.
4. Omni Parker House, Boston
The birthplace of Boston cream pie is definitely worth a visit. Though technically more of a cake than a pie, this creamy and chocolately treat is a Boston classic. And you can get one here for only $9. It doesn't get more authentic than this.
5. Pie in the Sky Bakery & Cafe, Woods Hole
Open 364 days a year (they're closed on Christmas), this local favorite serves a lustworthy slice of pie. They're located in historic Woods Hole at the end of the Shining Sea Bike Path and literally only 60 seconds from the Martha's Vineyard ferry terminal. They have daily pie specials and everything is baked fresh. Try the peanut butter mousse pie for a fluffy yet rich slice of heaven.
6. Lyndell's Bakery, Somerville
At the date of writing, Lyndell's has been open for....41,196 days. They actually keep track. This place has been baking pies since 1887 so you know they've got their crust recipe down. There's usually a crowd of people outside this neighborhood mainstay, patiently waiting for their morning coffee and a taste of delicious pie. Recommendations? The custard with coconut or perhaps the classic rhubarb.
7. Salem Cross Inn, West Brookfield
Deep dish apple pie and homemade whipped cream savored in the warm glow of a massive wild cherry log fire? That's what you'll get when you visit the Salem Cross Inn. Come for the traditional early-American cuisine, stay for the incredible apple pie. For real, you'll have to stay the night at the inn so you can order more pie for breakfast.
8. Tart Baking Co., Northampton
Tart Baking Co. has an large delightful range of baked goods and pastries, but their pies are game-changing for sure. You really can't walk away from this place without sampling the pecan turtle tart and the caramel cranberry pie. You'll thank me between bites.
9. The Ever So Humble Pie Company Inc., East Walpole
Don't let the slightly clunky name deter you from losing your mind over these pies. They may be humble, but they have every right to brag. Ask for a couple of their adorable hand pies and take your sugar kick on the go.
You can't fake perfection and these pie shops have it. What's your favorite place to get a great piece of pie in Massachusetts?
