Spring in DC is one of the most fantastic times of year. The weather is perfect and the gorgeous cherry blossoms bloom. For a one month every year, DC is ignited with pops of pink and white… and tourists. One DC bar decided to get creative this year and turned two spaces into a cherry blossom bar that is so perfectly DC.
In the Shaw neighborhood, an innovative pop up bar has opened commemorating spring time. The pub, which is taking over Mockingbird Hill and Southern Efficiency at 1843 and 1841 Seventh Street, is an ode to cherry blossoms.
The owner of the space, Derek Brown, and his team created a unique combination of Japanese and District theme with a special twist.
There are technically two bars that features themed rooms. The first room feels like a cherry blossom themed garden.
There is a stunning mural of the Jefferson Memorial, and beautiful blossoms hanging down from the ceiling.
The other side of the bar is a Super Mario Brothers themed bar which features fun theme music, faux clouds and Piranha Plants.
The creators were careful to pay attention to every little detail from a lego mural of Super Mario World level and the flowers coming out of the shelves. It’s an experience that is unlike any other!
You can wander through both bars and enjoy the same menu at each. You can enjoy a fancy craft cocktail in a feline mug or more standard Japanese beers and whiskeys.
There is also a small food menu combining Japanese favorites with some Italian themed specials, as an ode to the Mario brothers!
Whether you chose to enjoy a beverage or just look at the decor, the Cherry Blossom Pub is worth a visit this spring!
The bar is open Sunday though Thursday from 5pm to 12:30am and Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 1:30am. Our advice is to get there early!
Celebrate the season at this limited time pop up pub and be sure to participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival this year!
