Breakfast in Maine has a history. Beginning in the 1800s, the state's hardest workers needed something to keep them strong all day long. This first meal of the day was big and had enough calories and taste to keep folks warm and satisfied. We're not entirely sure how fancy these meals were, so we're lucky that today the Maine breakfast has some nice added benefits. Things like blueberries and lots and lots of Maples syrup keep breakfast one of our favorite meals. It's especially great when it's consumed at the best breakfast spot in Maine!

Jeannie's Great Maine Breakfast is one of those places that exists in a touristy town, but is so well-loved by locals that it's become a community staple for everyone.

The history of the Great Maine Breakfast is one of friendship.

Originally owned and managed by Jeannie Merchant, Susan and Byron Saunders were involved with the restaurant and friends with Jeannie.

When it came time to sell, both Susan and Byron knew it was time to leave their 9 to 5 jobs and start something new. From the moment they took on ownership, the knew it was meant to be. They've continued serving the incredible food the restaurant is known for, but made improvements and changes along the way.

The menu is extensive and hearty, an homage to the hearty Maine breakfasts of the 1800s.

Recipes are reminiscent of the down-home meals you'd find in Maine’s logging camps, boarding houses, and sporting camps.

You can order a simple serving of pancakes, of course.

Or, opt for something with a bit of flair like the stuffed french toast with blueberries.

Blueberry lovers will also want to try the blueberry pancakes.

One of the biggest meals you can order comes with potatoes, toast, ham, eggs, beans AND pancakes!

Other options include things like a classic Greek omelette, served Maine style with a smile.

Or, eggs Benedict.

Seeing a table full of people and all the things they've ordered can be a thing of beauty.

Even vegan folks can find something they'll want, like the oatmeal walnut pancakes.

And, we ARE in Maine so you should probably consider the lobster eggs Benedict, too.

Or even the lobster sliders on herb biscuits with cream cheese, spinach and tomatoes.

Every table also has homemade jam for tasting, which you can also buy to take home.

Whatever you determine is the right meal (or, let's be honest, meals!) for you you'll want to pair it with an awesome Cadillac Mountain sunrise.
