The sun's still shining, the air's still warm and we're still loving the summer. But, we're also realistic. In a few short weeks, this weather will begin to fade and the leaves will turn. The good is that when that happens we have full license to start wearing fleece and we've got every reason to start indulging in daily apple cider and donuts in Maine. 1. Greenwood Orchards, Turner

If you're a lover of all things baked and sugary, Greenwood Orchards is a great option. In addition to powdery cider donuts they've also got tons of locally made products. They're a full bakery, so you can visit them all the way through the start of December. They're open now through October from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.. 2. Rocky Ridge Orchard, Bowdoin

Great cider? Check! Great baked goods full of sugar? Check! Deli sandwiches? CHECK! Spend a day here and be confident you won't go hungry. 3. Libby & Son U-Picks, Limerick

There isn't a lot you CAN'T find or do at Libby & Son! From a thriving blueberry season to rockin' apple picking, this is the place you'll want to go when you need to make the most of a full autumn day in Maine. 4. Cayford Orchards, Skowhegan

Take your autumn up a notch, but not only enjoy apple cider and donuts but also the hard stuff! The 57 different varieties of apples have been grown by the same family for six generations and we imagine their recipes have only gotten better with time. 5. Maine-ly Apples Orchard, Dixmont

We love Maine-ly Apples for their family friendly atmosphere. A visit should include a trip on their one-mile nature trail, followed by tasting all of their donuts and ice cream. The cider is also some of the best you'll taste! Visit them at: 372 Moosehead Tr., Dixmont / (207) 234-2043.

6. Bracketts Orchards, Limington

Come for the cider and the donuts, but make sure you start your trip with their brick oven pizza. We love this place because you can truly have an entire meal here! Visit them at: 24 Sokokis Ave., Limington / (207) 730-9169.

7. Pleasant Pond Orchard, Richmond

This is a wonderful little family-owned orchard, which means you can't get much more Maine than a visit here! They've got freshly pressed cider, along with anything else you can imagine that might be made with a good combination of apples, butter and sugar. 8. Thompson's Orchard, New Gloucester

Thompson's has been delighting Mainers and those from away since 1906. Based on that extensive growing experience, we have to believe that they've perfected the art of cider and donuts. Come to load up on both, then stay for a tractor ride! Visit them at: 276 Gloucester Hill Rd.,

9. McDougal Orchards, Springvale

McDougal Orchards planted their first Macintosh orchards in 1931. The trees have probably seen it all, but they're still churning up solid and tasty apples. It's these apples that make the cider and donuts so darn good! They're open every day of the week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until October. Give them a call after that to see if they're still open. 10. Apple Acres Farm, Hiram

This farm, located on 200 beautiful acres, offers fresh cider, donuts and pies which can be enjoyed at any of their picnic tables surrounded by nature. Visit them at: 363 Durgintown Rd., Hiram / (207) 625-4777
