Gelato is like ice cream’s fancy cousin, containing more milk, less cream than traditional ice cream. Authentic gelato generally doesn’t use egg yolks, which are a common ingredient in your typical ice creams. While you certainly won’t find gelato on any diet programs, it does offer fewer calories and less sugar than its popular counterpart, and it’s downright delicious. Next time your sweet tooth kicks in, pop on over to Piccola Gelateria, one of the best gelato shops in the Crescent City.
Welcome to Piccola Gelateria, a charming little gelato shop on Freret Street.
Find them at 4525 Freret Street #103, New Orleans, LA 70115.
Charming and cozy doesn’t even begin to describe the vibe you get when you walk through the doors.
Established in 2016, owners Ria and Ross Turnbull have created a space that’s so inviting, you may never want to leave. It’s ideal for a quick meet up with friends, or a place to sit down and read a book or get some work done while indulging in a sweet treat (or two).
At Piccola Gelateria, you’ll find some of the finest house-made artisan gelato in the city.
All made according to the gelato artisan standards found in Florence and Bologna, Italy.
You won’t find anything artificial here.
Everything is made using all natural ingredients, including locally sourced milk and cream.
Piccola Gelateria offers 18 different flavors of gelato and sorbetto every day.
Sorbetto, also known as sorbet is a dairy free version of your favorite frozen treat, and typically sweetened with juice, fruit pureed and sugar.
You’ll always find their traditional flavors like chocolate, hazelnut, and pistachio.
But they rotate new flavors in daily, so you’ll want to come back again and again to try them all! Some of their flavors in rotation include blueberry, sea salt caramel, toffee, and rose petal.
While gelato is certainly the star of the show, they also offer several espresso drinks.
With their own custom blended micro-roasted espresso.
And crepes!
Coffee, crepes, and gelato... the perfect meal!
These classic, French crepes are offered in both savory and sweet flavors, so whether you’re craving a smoked turkey and mozzarella crepe or a sweet Nutella crepe, there’s something for everyone.
They also offer a vegetarian crepe option as well.
