Tiny towns are often home to some of the most incredible restaurants, and we've found one of the best. Tucked away in the tiny town of Sunset, Louisiana lies a hidden gem restaurant worthy of a road trip. From perfectly seared steaks to charbroiled oysters, there's something for everyone on the menu at Cafe Josephine. Let's check it out.
Nestled in a small town just outside of Opelousas within the heart of Cajun Country lies Cafe Josephine.
Originally established as an old fashioned meat market and grocery store by the name of Napoleon Avenue Meat Market, Cafe Josephine is the spin-off from Chef Troy’s desire to expand his culinary horizons and offer some of the most creative dishes around.
The dining room is a rustic and welcoming space where you’ll feel right at home.
But for a unique dinner experience, take a seat at their oyster bar so you can have a front-row seat to the chefs at work.
“Food with an attitude” is the motto at Cafe Josephine, and they’re not exaggerating.
Sit back, relax, and be settle in for the meal of a lifetime.
For starters, their signature Zydeco shrimp is a must.
These fried shrimp are tossed with a spicy mayo, pecan pepper jelly, and Sriracha for a firecracker flavor that’s perfect to kick start your meal. You can also get oysters if you prefer, or a combo of the two!
The specialty entrees will make you a customer for life.
From thick-cut pork chops to hamburger steaks, there’s truly something for everyone on the menu.
You’ll also find an endless array of seafood dishes, like jumbo lump crab cakes and grilled seafood platters.
But Cafe Josephine is known for its oysters, and you’ll have plenty of options.
The trio sampler is your best bet for trying the specialty oysters, and you’ll get to enjoy their creamed spinach and bacon, creamy lump crab meat, and their bacon, tasso, and sausage oysters in a smoked étouffée sauce. Yum!
