There's no better way to cool down on a hot day than with a refreshing sno-ball. This iconic summertime snack has been a favorite for New Orleanians since the 1930s, and just about everyone has their own favorite go-to flavor that hasn't changed since they were a kid (we are team half chocolate half coconut with condensed milk). There are plenty of incredible sno-ball stands around the city, but when it comes to the best, you go to the original, and that’s Hansen’s, the sno-ball stand that started it all. Let's check it out:
For some of the best sno-balls you’ve ever tasted, visit Hansen’s Sno-Bliz.
This iconic sno-ball stand has been a tradition for locals since it opened in 1939.
Not only is Hansen’s credited with being the oldest sno-ball stand in the country, Hansen’s is also where it all began! The invention spawned one day in the 1930’s when Ernest Hansen and his son began building what would become the first sno-ball ice-machine and his wife, Mary Hansen, began making the syrups.
Without a doubt, the homemade syrups are what makes Hansen’s stands out from the rest.
Traditional flavors like strawberry, spearmint, and bubble gum are nostalgic favorites, but their specialty flavors like hibiscus, thai tea, and honey lavender will take your sno-ball to new levels.
Speaking of new levels, you can make yours a stuffed sno-ball with a scoop of ice cream for a truly decadent treat.
Or top yours with some fresh fruit for a refreshing take on your childhood favorite.
They’re always rotating in new flavors, and there’s one that comes around fairly often and it’s one of the most popular sno-balls at Hansen’s, and that’s the bananas foster.
This might just be the best merging of New Orleans' foods ever made.
You can add this sinfully delicious topping to any flavor you want.
We're a fan of chocolate, but get wild! Who knows, you may come up with a new favorite flavor!
Don't forget to give them a follow on Facebook so you never miss out on any of their specialty flavors. What's your favorite sno-ball flavor? Shout it out in the comments below!
