New Orleans and beignets go together like peanut butter and jelly. Even if you’ve lived here your entire life, sometimes you just get a craving for a fresh beignet piled sky-high with powdered sugar. There’s one iconic cafe that’s been around for over 150 years and they’ve got the best beignets in New Orleans.
When it comes to beignets, no one does it better than Cafe du Monde.
The original French Market coffee stand has been around since 1862.
Not only is it a New Orleans landmark and a popular tourist attraction, but they’re the place to go when you’re craving a beignet.
Since they’re open 24 hours a day, there’s literally never a bad time to pop in. During peak hours you may encounter a bit of a wait time, but luckily beignets cook pretty quickly, and your patience will be rewarded.
Their outdoor seating area is the perfect spot to do some people watching while you sip on their signature coffee and tasty beignets.
Served in orders of three, you just can’t beat these pillow-pockets of fried dough dusted with powdered sugar.
Whether you prefer your beignets with a light dusting...
... or a heaping shower of powdered sugar, Cafe Du Monde is certainly the place to go when you're in the mood for a beignet.
And their signature coffee is an absolute must. The Cafe Du Monde Coffee and Chicory is traditionally served Au Lait, which means it’s mixed half and half with milk. It’s the perfect accompaniment to your beignet, but they also have orange juice and chocolate milk if you prefer.
Address: 800 Decatur Street, New Orleans, LA, 70116
While you're in the area, you might as well do some shopping in the French Market. It's existed on the same site since 1791, making it the oldest public market in the United States. For more information, check out our previous article here.
