Good food, service and drinks are always the prime aspects when seeking out a new dining experience. Finding all these things along with an unusual historic environment is even better. Most people think dirt, grease, grime and car parts when they hear the term "garage" but we have garage restaurant in Kentucky. The place has been renovated, thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and turned into a unique dining experience.
The Garage Bar:
The restaurant is located in the historic and recently renovated NULU district of Downtown Louisville at 700 E Market.
Why is it named the Garage Bar and Grill?
For years the building was a service garage. It underwent a hardcore renovation to become the unique and popular restaurant it is today. This NULU community underwent a renovation in order to offer more arts, food and entertainment for local tourism.
Returning to its roots:
When the location was researched, it was learned that state documents from 1918 listed the location as the Caster Chas Saloon. Today, they specialize in Kentucky Bourbon and Rye Whiskeys, wines, seasonal cocktails, and a fine variety of bottled craft and eclectic draft brews, when it comes to local fare.
Garage Bar and Grill Art:
The outside of the building wasn’t changed much other than to add a large sign. However, the rest of the place is overflowing with uniquely created local artist works. Among the various art is an epic sculpture that will inspire unforgettable reactions. It is a machine that slowly causes to full sized vehicles into a head on collision, complete with sound effects. This traumatic art is to remind visitors that our very egos and personalities can be seen in cars. They took the perspective to see a beautiful automobile destroyed, it can be like looking at self destruction, on some deep levels. It might sound strange, but it is definitely unforgettable.
The courtyard is dimly lit.
It has well landscaped and maintained shrubbery and plants. It is a very relaxing place to enjoy a drink while waiting on a preferred seat, or a meal to be done.
The drinks are phenomenal.
They have several specialty drinks here that are very unique and have been featured on Esquire Network. The High Heat, District 8, Bloody Mary with Poached Shrimp, and the house made Shandy are all local favorites. The Bloody Mary is a snack and drink in one!
Traditional non alcohol drinks:
They also offer a red cream soda and some of the most delightful egg creams you will ever take a sip of. They are rich, flavorful, and will remind you of the days of yesteryear when our elders spoke of soda fountain drinks the old school way. They add a true touch of tradition and a nice mix of modern, ensuring there is something for everyone here.
The food:
We could go on, and on, and on about the food. They have handmade fire oven baked pizzas in a variety of flavors that are all delicious. They have the best burgers in the downtown area. They use "farm to garage" food, (AKA fresh, farm raised, organic goodness.) You will find country ham, breakfast dishes, fresh oysters, and some amazing house designed dishes. Anything you order off the Garage menu will leave your taste buds longing for the next visit.
The Garage Restaurant in Kentucky is a must visit for mouthwatering cuisine and a unique ambiance. The fresh food pops with flavor, the egg cream is truly incredible and the experience will keep you coming back.
