The local bakery is an institution in our country; a place where communities often gather, socialize, and pick out the perfect pie to take home to their families. Kentucky has many of these delightful places, each one specializing in something different. If you're in the mood for pie, then you simply must head to Missy's Pies in Lexington. The famous pies at this Kentucky bakery are almost too good to be true, and if you've never enjoyed a slice, it's time to decide on a favorite.
If you live in or near Lexington, or even if you've ever passed through the city, chances are you've heard of Ramsey's Diner. This local favorite restaurant opened in 1989 and its incredibly delicious, comfort food menu was so popular that they soon ran out of oven space for their pies.
Thus, Missy's was created. Owner Rob Ramsey helped his Lead Prep Cook, Missy, start a pie bakery that would supply the restaurant, as well as anyone else who wanted to purchase the pies. While Missy has since moved away, her bakery remains and is as delicious as ever.
Several types of pies are made daily, and each one is more scrumptious than the next. They are made by hand, from scratch, and you can taste the love in every sweet bite.
Missy's still supplies all Ramsey's Diner locations with pies, but the bakery is truly an eatery in its own right. The pies are the highlight and you can pick up a whole one or just a slice when you visit.
Missy's has a menu that includes more than ten pies available daily. They also now offer a small lunch menu of sandwiches, paninis, and wraps, making it a wonderful midday dining destination.
There is a small dining area in the bakery, if you'd like to enjoy lunch or a slice of pie right there at Missy's. Of course, you can take it to go, as well. They also offer some of the favorite menu items from Ramsey's that you can take home with you, such as Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken n' Dumplings, soups, and more.
Missy's was a perfect extension to Ramsey's Diner, and it now stands on its own as a delightful bakery and cafe. If you have yet to try a slice of this famous pie, visit Lexington and enjoy the challenge of choosing which one - or more - you want to try.
Missy's Pies may have been created out of a happy accident, but we are so glad it's stuck around to serve us some of the best pies in Kentucky. Have you tried one of Missy's Pies, either directly from the shop or at Ramsey's? What's your favorite flavor? Let us know in the comments!
