Kentucky may be world famous for bourbon, but that doesn't mean you can't get a great brew in the Bluegrass. Since 1866, Sig Luscher Brewery has been a bold iconoclast in the heart of Kentucky Bourbon Country, serving some of the best beer in the state.
While we typically talk about bourbon barrels here in the Bluegrass State, that doesn't mean we eschew other barrel-aged libations.
The barrel-aged lagers from Sig Luscher Brewery are a revelation, and easily the best beer in Kentucky Bourbon Country.
Since 1866, Sig Luscher has been *the* place to grab a pint of premium pilsner in Kentucky.
In the 1860s, Swiss-born Sigmund Luscher came to Tennessee with big American (brewery) dreams in his eyes. He built a brewery in the Volunteer State, but it was ill timed. A civil war broke out and General Sherman’s rebel troops burned down the burgeoning brewery.
But Luscher wasn't deterred. He returned to Switzerland once the war ended and ultimately convinced the American government to pay him $2,150 in reparations, before heading back to the states.
This time, Luscher set his sights on the Bluegrass, taking over the Capitol Brewing Company in 1866. He quickly became a figurehead in the community, building a homestead on Ann Street and gaining notoriety for his crisp, light brews.
Today, Sig Luscher Brewery offers a variety of lagers and ales on tap, with Weller barrels often used to create incredibly nuanced and unique brews.
When paired with a loaded hot dog or bratwurst, there's really nothing better on a crisp afternoon in the Bluegrass State!
Since its founding, Sig Luscher Brewery has remained a community cornerstone, often hosting live music and festive events.
There's room for everyone here in Kentucky: bourbon, beer, and especially Swiss expats who come to the Bluegrass with big, spirited dreams and ideas!
Have you visited Sig Luscher Brewery, a historic and legendary Kentucky icon? Even seasoned bourbon aficionados need to mix it up sometimes, and when you're craving an amazing beer, there's no better place in Kentucky.
