1. Martinelli's Little Italy
We've all had spaghetti and meatballs at some point, but Martinelli's takes it to a new level with this famous meatball that tops every plate of this homemade Italian dish. They're so good that people come from across the state just to have one of these big meatballs for themselves.Address: 158 South Santa Fe Avenue, Salina, KS 67401
2. Tanya's Soup Kitchen
As you might have guessed from the name of the restaurant, but soup is this spot's forte. Every soup you could imagine has probably been served here, and they're trying new things all the time. They have a different special every day of the week, so keep coming back for more, or check out which soup you like best to plan your trip.Address: 1725 East Douglas Avenue, Wichita, KS 67211
3. Munchers Bakery
At this bakery, cream cheese donuts are one item that gets the most attention. They're the perfect blend of breakfast-level sweet and seem to make any morning better.Address: 925 Iowa Street, Lawrence, KS 66044
4. Chicken Annie's
You might not be aware, but southeast Kansas is all about fried chicken, and a miniature feud between chicken restaurants. They serve amazing homemade sides with service you'd expect from a small town like this. Address: 1143 East 600th Avenue, Pittsburg, KS 66762
5. Chicken Mary's
Just down the street from Chicken Annie's is Chicken Mary's, the other half to this fried chicken feud that's been going on as long as we can remember. Try both, and pick a favorite for yourself! Address: 1133 East 600th Avenue, Pittsburg, KS 66762
6. Jim's Steakhouse
Also in Pittsburg is Jim's Steakhouse, a place where the best item on the menu is the steak tips. Even if you're a fan of other meats, be sure to try them at least once for a delicious addition to your bucket list. Address: 1912 North Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762
7. The Cozy Inn
A year after White Castle got its start in Kansas, Cozy Inn started sending out sliders, and hasn't stopped since. Their classic slider with onions and mustard can be bought individually or by the sack, depending on how many you can eat and how many you want to share.Address: 108 North 7th Street, Salina, KS 67401
8. G's Frozen Custard
Now we know this isn't really a meal, but ice cream is something we love anyways. As a state that gets pretty hot in the summer, the best treat is always a cold one. Their brown bread custard is a bestseller, and not something you'll find anywhere else. Address: 1301 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66606
9. Carriage Crossing
In the Amish community of Yoder, they have a great restaurant that prides itself on homemade food served like you're family. They also sell whole pies and cinnamon rolls that are the same size as the pies, never mind your plate. We always take one home for breakfast the next morning after a meal here. Address: 10002 South Yoder Road, Yoder, KS 67585
10. Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que
Joe's is nationally recognized as some of the best barbecue in the country, and also the best in the state. Their Z-Man is delicious, and so good they sell kits to make it at home in bulk, with everything you need for eight sandwiches. For some, it's better than waiting in line at the restaurant! Address: 3002 West 47th Street, Kansas City, KS 66103
11. Dutch Kitchen Restaurant
We know pie, like ice cream, isn't a meal either, but that doesn't stop us from counting it. Not only is the pie at Dutch Kitchen amazing, but it's also available in over 70 flavors, which you can order ahead for pickup. Address: 6803 KS-61, Hutchinson, KS 67501
