We all have a favorite place to find our mouthwatering bbq right in Kansas, but sometimes you need to branch out a little. It's easy to stumble across some amazing barbecue in a city, but what about tiny towns? If you're in the area, you'll definitely want to head to Williamsburg just to try the amazing food at Guy & Mae's Tavern. It's now in the running for some of the best in the whole state, and you'll see why as soon as you take your first bite.
Williamsburg is a tiny town south of Topeka and Lawrence, where the population's only around 400 people. You aren't going to feel crowded anywhere else, except for maybe Guy & Mae's at dinnertime!
The ribs themselves aren't over-the-top like you'd normally find in a city. Most people like crazy smoked, seasoned ribs, but here in Williamsburg, they love the flavor of the true meat, and fall-off-the-bone moist is how they're cooked. Add sauce, and you're golden!
Or, if you prefer, have a sandwich instead where you can get a little less hands-on with your bbq. The sides are simple, because the real star of the show is the meat they make daily.
They're open from 11am to midnight for all your barbecue (and beer) needs. However, don't try to find them on Sundays or Mondays, as they're closed.
Be forewarned, however, sometimes the ribs sell out early due to demand. So make sure you're there well before supper! Here's a handy map that'll show you just where they're at.
If you're looking for something a little less saucy but a little more cheesy, head up to Topeka for this amazing grilled cheese hideaway you'll want to try next.
