It's always best when it's homemade, but these restaurants do a fantastic job of keeping it simple, and keeping it delicious. What restaurant makes it the way you like it best?

1. theBarn - 307 W Dean St (Hwy 50) Burrton, KS

This place in particular is a local sensation, and chicken fried steak always flies right out the door. In addition to having great food, they've also proved their worth by selling over 10,000 chicken fried steaks in their first 10 months. That's insane!

2. Cattleman's Cafe II - 744 E Pancake Blvd Liberal, KS

Cattleman's is well known for their reasonable prices and great portions, but their chicken fried steak is by far my favorite. Why don't you stop in for a bite?

3. Gella's Diner - 117 E 11th St Hays, KS

If this doesn't look amazing, I don't know what foods you've been eating all your life. The homemade gravy compliments the meal so well, I wanted to take home a bowl of it for my own! Gella's is a place where you'll always feel at home, in your heart and also your stomach.

4. Stroud's - 8301 W 135th St Overland Park, KS

Stroud's! They started in 1933 and ever since then, they've been serving up happiness on a plate. Their meals come directly from the pan to the plate, and you can taste every bit of love put into their food.

5. The Greenery - 1303 N State Iola, KS

There's few meals better than chicken fried steak paired with homemade mashed potatoes, and The Greenery is an excellent place to find just that. In addition to great taste, the chicken fried steak itself takes up most of the plate, which is a great sign. Sadly, The Greenery is no longer in operation today.

6. Jim's Country Style Chicken - 649 S Broadway Blvd Salina, KS

Jim's has great bierocks, and most locals know that. However, their chicken fried steak is some of the best I've had in this state. Trust me, I've had more than I can count.

7. Uptown Cafe & Grill - 202 S Main St Pratt, KS

Pratt doesn't get a lot of attention when Kansans are looking for a good place to eat, but Uptown Cafe is a real treat. Chicken fried steak lovers all over can enjoy this eatery's delicious rendition of the same meal many Kansans look for at every restaurant.

8. Welcome Home Cafe - 2280 Southwind Ave Colby, KS

Welcome Home Cafe is true to it's name, making your stomach feel right at home and filled with home cooking just like Mama would make it. Chicken fried steak here is a popular dish, and for good reason. It's delicious! What more can I say?

9. Hays House - 112 W Main St Council Grove, KS

Hays House does have decent food, but most of its patrons flock here for the history and tourism factor. It's not going to be crazy or innovative, but it's cooking like you'd get in the old days: simple.
