Some of the best dining experiences can be found off the beaten path. Here's a restaurant that serves up the best steak you've ever eaten, and it's well worth the drive.
Montour has fewer than 300 residents, but people come to this little town from all over the state to visit Rube's Steakhouse. The steakhouse got its start in 1973, and it's been a hit ever since. It's located at 118 E. Elm Street.
When you walk in the door, the first thing you'll see is a case full of fresh, Black Angus steaks that were sourced within 150 miles of the restaurant.
You'll find a nice selection of steaks on the menu. From the 20-oz. T-bone to the bacon-wrapped filet, they're all fresh, juicy and locally-sourced from Iowa ranchers.
Your meal comes with a salad, baked potato or skillet potatoes, baked beans and Texas toast.
The skillet potatoes are a favorite here - seasoned to perfection, tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.
At Rube's, you'll grill your own steak. After you choose your cut off the menu, your steak will go on the grill at your table, and they'll help you grill it just like you like it.
The steak here is so tender it will melt in your mouth.
You might not have a lot of room left for dessert, but you'll definitely want to try the Turtle Cheesecake.
Rube's is open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 5 PM to 9:30 PM; Friday and Saturday 5 PM to 10 PM; Sunday 5 PM to 8:30 PM.
