All you need is the address to get to this amazing place in Iowa. It's got everything: a bridge, the sunset, and awesome Midwestern food.
This place is beautiful 365 days a year. In the fall, it's absolutely magical.
It'll make you want to go to a pumpkin farm, put on a scarf, and find your warmest socks. Spending a crisp fall afternoon here and watching the sunset is magical.
If you want to get the full experience, you'll need to show up early enough to see all of the amazing fall colors, but late enough to catch one of Iowa's firey sunsets.
It isn't exactly on a well-traveled road. It's near the small town of Lisbon.
Baxa's Sutliff Store and Tavern is located at 5546 130th St NE, Lisbon.
You can get food there Sunday through Thursday between 11 am and 9 pm. They stay open until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday nights. They are closed every Monday and all major holidays. The food here is traditional Midwestern American stuff. Tenderloins (of course) the occasional fish fry, and excellent burgers made them famous.
During the epic flood of 2008, half of the historic bridge in front of the restaurant washed away.
The locals were so upset that they decided to raise the money to rebuild it.
Now complete, the restored Sutliff bridge is a huge draw for people who live in the area.
Once you've been here, you'll want to come back again and again.
The scenery on the drive to this restaurant is beautiful.
Once you get there, the views can't be beat.
Here are a few helpful hints in case you decide to visit this amazing place.
They don't take Visa or Mastercard; or any card. Bring cash if you want to enjoy one of their epic breaded tenderloins and an ice cold beer.
If you find yourself at Baxa's and suddenly remember that you forgot to renew your hunting and/or fishing license, you are in luck. They sell both hunting and fishing licenses, here.
The bridge is beautiful and the site is ideal, but please don't bring a picnic. No outside food or drink allowed.
Please remember to bring your photo ID if you want to buy beer, though. This place may be out of the way, but they are nice law-abiding folks that will I.D. you.
If you simply must have a party here, ask about the back room. It's for rent.
Enjoy your visit to the incredible Baxa's!
