Have you ever gone out looking for Bigfoot in Iowa? Plenty of people have stories of seeing the monster (which is a bit of a harsh term!) on camping or canoe trips throughout the Hawkeye State. Growing up, everyone knew the neighbor with the blurry pictures of a figure in the woods that had to be a Bigfoot - after all, there was no other explanation!
Luckily, now we don't have to spend hours tracking footprints in the woods if we want to find the real bigfoot. Like many of us, he got a little sick of being in the elements all the time! Rather than stay out in the cold all winter, Grover the Bigfoot opened his own restaurant and bar just outside of Des Moines. If you're looking for a great restaurant for your entire family, check it out as soon as you can.
Bigfoot Bacon and Brew is located at 3221 Adventureland Drive, Altoona, IA.
Right away, you'll be greeted by a bigfoot! Be sure to stop for a picture before taking your seat.
This woodsy restaurant feels like you're dining in a forest cabin.
Often, you'll spot Grover the Bigfoot sipping on a Bloody Mary at the bar. It's hard work being blurry all the time - even bigfoots have to recharge!
The menu here consists of food for all tastes. Their breakfast is perfect for early risers, and their lunch and dinner specials are sure to fill you up.
Of course, the bacon burger at a place with "bacon" in the name is always a sure bet. Try their Bluff Creek Bacon burger - with extra special sauce!
If you're feeling a little tropical, try their famous jerk chicken sandwich with housemade mango salsa.
The Bigfoot Tenderloin is stuffed with molten cheese and crispy bacon - now that's a twist on a classic dish that I could support!
Not everything is on a bun here - you can also order steaks, salads, spring rolls and plenty of chicken dishes.
Grover the Bigfoot is known to travel into Des Moines for food festivals and events - so keep an eye out for him in the big city!
As if a trip to Bigfoot's couldn't get any better, it's located right across the street from Iowa's famous Adventureland Park.
Make a full day out of your trip to Altoona by spending the day in the park, and then heading across the street for best dining experience around.
Bigfoot's Bacon and Brew is open 11 AM - 10 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 AM - 11 PM on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 AM - 10 PM on Sunday. It's very family friendly, and both kids and adults will get a kick out of the atmosphere and enjoy their tasty meals and specialty drinks - like State Fair Lemonade, or one of their many local brews.
(Altoona is also home to Iowa's Under-the-Sea Themed Bowling Alley and Restaurant, so if coming face to face with a giant, furry monster is a little intimidating, try your luck with sharks instead.)
