Indiana's most famous donuts are located in an area of the state that is very overlooked and underrated. The town of Kokomo is located about 40 miles east of Lafayette, and there's a tiny donut shop there that has gained more popularity than any other.

Believe it or not, Dan's Variety Bakery opens at 1 a.m. every morning and every Hoosier wants to be first in line. The place originally opened in 1975, but the owner began working in bakeries when he was 15 years old before opening his own 20 years later.
This tiny donut shop is family-run, and it started off in a small shack (not far from the current location) where the business thrived for 10 years before moving to its Union Street spot in 1985. Hard work, good prices, and a great product have kept this place alive for more than four decades.
When Dan's first opened, donuts were 10 cents a piece, and the price has not risen much since.
There wasn't always a line out the door, though. It gained fame as a place to go late at night for donuts due to the unique time that it opens and the increasing trend of people wanting a place to go after the bars or as a way to extend the night.
People love to come out to this place for a budget-friendly donut that tastes like heaven. The recipe for these delicious pastries is so secret that it's locked away in a safe. The bakery sells about 200 donuts on a slow night and three times as many on the weekends.
Locals are known to bring lawn chairs and basically tailgate on the busiest nights, when people start lining up about 90 minutes before the doors open. The steady stream of customers often does not end until noon when it closes for the day.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Tucked away in small-town Indiana in a little place called Attica is a small, mom-and-pop hole-in-the-wall that’s situated on a small farm and 100% worth driving out for, no matter which part of the state you’re from. It’s called the Bossaer Farms Bakery & Cafe, and I promise it’s worth every mile. I would even go as far as to say it’s easily the best place to grab a bite to eat in town, and it’s definitely one downright amazing bakery in Attica Indiana. Come out to one of the sleepiest small towns in Indiana and see for yourself – this one’s got some of the best pie you’ll ever have, hands down!

Trust me when I say it's easy to blink and miss Bossaer Farms Bakery & Café.
It's a small, unassuming little building that looks more like a home than a restaurant, but as soon as you step inside you'll smell the heavenly scent of cooking goodies you won't be able to resist.
Bossaer Farms really is a small farm, and depending on the time of year, you can meander about and check out the grounds.
My favorite season, personally, is the fall, when you'll find pumpkins galore growing on the grounds. But, I digress: back to those baked goods.
If the scent of fresh-baked bread, perfectly-prepared cookies, cakes, and more don't make you feel a mighty need to get out here, I don't think anything will.
You'll want to purchase a little bit of everything... especially so you can have some at home. The dining area here is quite small, so do arrive early for the best shot at getting a table.
You'll find a selection of soups, sandwiches, salads, and more. It's a great place to go if you're hungry...
...but do be sure to leave some room. After all, yes, the food here is wondrous, but it's the dessert that's really gonna get you going. To say it's "incredible" is to understate things just a smidge.

And no matter what season it is, you'll find goodies accordingly, from chocolate-dipped strawberries in February to cookies, cakes and more for every season and occasion, you'll find everything your heart (and sweet tooth) desires.
