Few things are as pleasing as fresh-made foods like straight-from-the-farm produce, hand-battered fried chicken, and homemade baked goods, and few places in Indiana are worth driving all the way from across the state for these things. Luckily, we have managed to find a couple over the years. The one we’re featuring right now has definitely earned its place among the greats if we do say so ourselves.
In Arcadia, halfway between Indianapolis and Kokomo, there's a cute little family-owned mom-and-pop general store that serves up some of the best baked goods in Indiana – but the Amish fry pies are, by far, our favorite. Come check out Wilson Farm Market but be sure to leave plenty of room in the car – you’re going to want to take everything home with you. Get there early and be sure to enjoy the best fry pies in Indiana – if not the whole Midwest!
At first, Wilson Farm Market looks like your average grocery store, but don't be fooled: you'll definitely want to step inside.
Here, you'll find some of the most amazingly delicious baked goods, candies, savory comfort food, Amish groceries, and so, SO much more. It's huge on the inside and we don't think you'll ever beat this stop when it comes to awesome foodie-type places to road trip to.
When we say the baked treats here are good, we mean they are to die for good.
Cookies, pies, cakes, breads, desserts, savory stuff... this little mom-and-pop stop has it all. But, there's one item in particular that tends to steal the show, and for good reason.
…the fry pies.
A fry pie is a traditional bakery item that's exactly what it sounds like - a fried pie. The dessert used to be called "crab lanterns", and goes back to as far as the 1770s. The filling is tenderly wrapped in a delicious pie-like crust and deep fried before being removed from the oil and brushed with a coating of sweet icing (which might just be the best part).
You'll find the wide range of available varieties at Wilson Farm Market to be quite pleasing. There's only one problem: how do you know which one to pick?
Well, guess you'd better get one (or two) of each. You know, just to make sure you don't miss out on anything. We wouldn't want that. It would be a tragedy.
Of course, if sweets aren't really your thing (no judgment here), there is so much more to look forward to on the drive up to Wilson Farm Market.
They have some of the best fried chicken in the country. They also offer Amish goodies like butter, cheeses, and the freshest meats. You absolutely, positively cannot go wrong with a trip to Arcadia specifically to experience this little slice of paradise.
Like we said previously, make sure you've got lots of room in the car for the trip back.
You'll be hauling a lot more going that way than you were on the way out, after all. Just try to leave some goodies for the rest of us.
For more information including the most up-to-date hours, pricing, specials, and more, be sure to check out the official Wilson Farm Market website. Which baked goods are your favorites? Have you tried the Amish fry pies from Wilson Farm? Tell us in the comments.
And if you have a list of your favorite Indiana bakeries, tell us about them by filling out the OIYS nomination form and you might see your picks featured someday!

While you’re in Arcadia, you’ll want to stop by Northbrook Brewing Company, too.
