One of the oldest pizzerias in Indiana is in West Lafayette, where locals keep it busy enjoying the same great pies since 1955. Bruno's opened within years of the first pizzeria in Indiana, and it's developed a cult audience in the decades since. The original Hoosier pizza is still thin and cheesy, but you might notice that it's cut a little differently. Scroll on to check it what many people call the best pizza in Indiana:
In business since 1955, Bruno's is one of Indiana's oldest pizzerias. It is situated on the west-central side of the state and has had a few locations over the years.
The owner immigrated to America and settled in Indiana in 1951 where he took a Gary construction job. He later moved to South Bend and was employed in a restaurant before moving to West Lafayette and starting the town's first and only pizza place.
In the beginning, pizza was the only item on the menu, and it is still the most popular thing to get today. Locals all over town adore this pie.
As years went by, Bruno added additional menu items like salads, soups, and appetizers such as breadsticks, deep-fried Bruno dough (pictured), garlic bread, sauteed chicken livers, cheddar cheese bites, chicken bites, and more.
When it comes to the pie, specialty options include veggie and meat lovers as well as a deluxe and house special known as the Boilermaker. Margherita and no cheese pizza are also available and you can also create-your-own from the expensive list of ingredients.
A dessert pizza is also on the menu. It includes peanut butter and cheese finished with chocolate chips. Additional desserts are available by request.
While there are many pizza places that began decades ago in the Hoosier State, this is definitely one of the most unique, and it says a lot that it's still around today.
Bruno's Pizza is open Sunday through Thursday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., and you can get more details on its website or Facebook page.
