Indiana has an exaggerated reputation of being a place for only great fried food, but it also has some great culture cuisine. In fact, Indiana has some fantastic Mexican food restaurants spread throughout the state. If Mexican is your favorite, give these local Mexican joints a try:

The Tamale Place is an Indianapolis based Mexican food chain that has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. This is an absolute go-to for authentic Mexican food.
2. Puerto Vallarta
This restaurant is a small chain in Indiana, but receives rave reviews at their Jefferson, Indiana location in particular. They offer carry out, highly reviewed margaritas, and great customer service.
3. Memo's Taco Mex
Located in Highland, Indiana, Memo's is a local favorite in Northwest Indiana. While mostly focused on take out Mexican food, they do offer a small dining area. Fan favorites: the carne en su jugo and fish tacos.
4. El Tequilazo Mexican Restaurant
El Tequilazo Mexican Restaurant in Charleston, Indiana gets serious points for making delicious Mexican food inside of an old train car. The atmosphere, tasty treats, and overall dining experience make this restaurant a must see.
5. Real Hacienda
Real Hacienda has a few locations in western Indiana, but fans agree that the Terre Haute location is their favorite. Some even argue this place has the best Mexican food in the state. We'll leave it for you to judge...
6. La Margarita
Located in the Fountain Square district of Indianapolis, La Margarita is a fun, colorful Mexican spot. With outdoor seating, live music, and a fully stacked bar, Indy residents know this is one of the best Mexican places in the area.

Acapulco in Angola, Indiana has top rated queso and shredded beef. They also have brunch buffets on the weekends.
8. Mi Pueblo 4
With killer margaritas, tostados, and affordable pricing, this Fort Wayne favorite can rival the best Indiana restaurants.
9. El Caballo Blanco
Hidden away in the small town of Connersville, Indiana, El Caballo Blanco is one of the state's highest rated restaurants. They even have great vegetarian options.
10. Fiesta Mexican Grill
Many Purdue students insist this Mexican restaurant has the best Mexican food in the state. The main selling point? Their fresh tortillas.
