There's nothing better than a hearty plate of German food to satisfy your soul. When the craving strikes for some good old fashioned German fare, a trip to Heidelberg Haus is in order. This little hidden gem is so much more than just a restaurant, you'll find so much more crammed within the four walls of this historic business. Let's take a closer look.
Tucked away in the northeastern side of Indianapolis, Heidelberg Haus has been serving some of the most authentic German cuisine for over 50 years.
Established in 1968, the darling little diner/cafe has had many upgrades and expansions to both the building and the menu over the years, but one thing has remained the same: the quality of the food and the welcoming atmosphere.
From the moment you step inside, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Old Germany.
There’s a lot to look at, so take your time and peruse the aisles.
Heidelberg Haus is also a gift shop chock-full of gifts, chocolates, candies, and groceries.
It’s the perfect spot to pick up some European delicacies you won’t be able to find anywhere else.
The menu features all your favorite German dishes.
Not much has changed on the menu since they opened 50 years ago. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Bratwurst, frankfurters, heidelbergers and more pepper the menu.
Your meal is served with homemade potato salad, and a good old fashioned slice of bread and butter. Yum!
Is there anything better than a freshly baked pretzel?
No. No, there is not.
The portions are generous, but be sure to save room for dessert.
The pastry portion of Heidelberg Haus is truly something special.
Treat yourself to some delicious German pasties, tortes, cakes, danishes and more.
All are made from scratch each and every day.
And don’t forget to check out their bakery section.
Take home some of their freshly baked breads including hard rolls, German rye breads, and of course, pretzels.
