Say what you want about the Hoosier state — when it comes to food, we've got a lot to brag about. From signature food items to foods we just do better, there's a lot to miss about leaving the Hoosier state. Here are 8 foods everyone misses when they leave Indiana.
1. Sauerkraut balls
These delicious balls of joy can be found throughout the Midwest, but no one makes them quite like Indiana.
2. Hoosier tenderloins
In just about every other state, this amazing sandwich is obsolete. Indiana did it first and still does it best. There's no way you won't have dreams about this delicious and classic comfort food.
3. Persimmon pudding
This isn't purely a dish found in Indiana, but we certainly make it our own. Its one of our specialty desserts and you won't find it made quite like it is in Indiana.
4. Sweet corn
Indiana sweet corn is unlike any corn you'll find across the U.S. It's fresh, perfectly sweet and juicy, and made with love. This is one side dish you'll be craving if you ever leave.
5. Gourmet popcorn
As the home of Orville Redenbacher, it's only natural that our state has such incredible popcorn. From sweet, fruity flavors to savory and cheesy flavors, popcorn is one thing no other state has on us.
6. Sugar cream pie
This traditional Hoosier dessert is the unofficial pie of Indiana and for some reason can only really be found in the Hoosier state. You'll be dreaming of holidays with this delightful dessert should you ever move away.
7. Shrimp cocktail
This delicious appetizer is not exclusive to the Hoosier state, but where on the planet will you find a better shrimp cocktail than at St. Elmo's? You know the answer... Nowhere.
8. Deep fried anything
No one does deep fried foods better than Indiana. From fried pickles to onion rings to cookies and even butter, there's nothing that's fried the way it is in Indiana.
