Hidden away in a little grocery store on Oliver Avenue in Indianapolis is a spot that's sure to scratch the itch should you ever itch for excellent Mexican food. Being a fan of Mexican food in the Midwest is hard. We can't just gallivant on over to Arizona if we want the good stuff, we have to find it here - and that's where Carniceria Guanajuato comes in. When it comes to some of the best hole-in-the-wall places to eat in Indiana, it really doesn't get any better than this unassuming little grocery store. Check it out for the best tacos in Indiana:
This is one of those places that's criminally easy to accidentally pass up, never even realizing what it was that you were missing.
But, should you stop at this brightly-colored grocery store on Oliver, here's what you'll find: a relic from south of the border (or, a little closer - the desert southwest)...
...that just so happens to serve up some of the downright best, most authentic and wonderful Mexican food you've ever had in your life.
Seriously, come here for the groceries - you'll find all kinds of international foods, spices, and more - but stay for lunch, because this little hole-in-the-wall is amazing.
You cannot possibly go wrong with anything on the menu.
The meats are flavorful and the rice and beans are perfectly prepared. The dishes are as colorful as they are filled with flavor, but there's one dish in particular that really stands out: the tacos.
Seriously, we're pretty sure these are THE best tacos north of Colorado... at the very least, the best tacos in Indiana.
The ingredients work perfectly together, and every dish is as much a masterpiece as the last... but these tacos, though.
OH. And the drinks! Did we mention the drinks?
Speaking of outrageously colorful and delicious dishes, the drinks served up at Carniceria Guanajuato are a testament to all the wonders of having tastebuds. Why have just one margarita when you can have two? We won't judge. We'll be ordering one with you.
So, perhaps we should have said this instead: come for the tacos, but stay for the rest of the menu... and the groceries!
It's not every day you get to sample authentic Mexican food in the Midwest, so this is an opportunity you should NOT pass up.
This little hotspot is so mom-and-pop that it doesn't have a website of its own, but you can stay up to date with specials and more by following the official Carniceria Guanajuato Facebook page. What are your favorite places to eat in Indiana? Let us know!
