Did you know that Indiana is home to some of the downright best bakeries in the entirety of the Midwest? Seriously, it's true - just look up "bakeries in Indiana" and count the outrageous number of highly-rated bakeries with amazing rave reviews (and then good luck not going to all of them - you've been warned). There's a huge number, so for a moment, I'd like to appreciate one particular little bakery that's perfect in just about every way. It's a mom-and-pop owned family-run bakery in Indiana, and the locals can't get enough of the donuts... or the cookies... and everything else, really. Check it out - and try not to lick the screen.
Welcome to Hart Bakery & Gift Shop, which is pretty much exactly what the name implies.
The history of the place is intriguing and goes back to just after World War II, when a man known only as "Uncle Joe" opened the place after returning from war. It changed hands over the years, but other than owners, everything is much the same as it's always been.
After all, why fix what isn't broken?
In 1968, the current owner was an employee of the bakery. Now, she's the only female certified Master Baker in all of Indiana. Talk about a glow-up!
Today, she and her immediate family run the bakery as a family operation - a very, very tasty one.
You can't go wrong with anything in the glass case. This bakery specializes in amazing baked goodies like cupcakes, cookies, and especially donuts. It's also known for some of its non-sweet baked deliciousness, too.
If you've never had fresh-baked bread that's just come out of the oven, you haven't LIVED, friend.
This is a great time to do that. Go on... try to order just one loaf. Good luck.
I digress: Hart Bakery is THE place to go for everything from delicious donuts to an extravagantly beautiful wedding cake.
Some folks in town have quite literally made the donuts from Hart's their morning tradition... for decades. This just goes to show that whatever it is that Hart's Bakery has been doing, it's been doing it right.
So, come on in, check out what's in the glass cake, shop the gift shop, and order something special.
