Family owned and operated, passed down through the generations, or simply the realization of one couple's dream, these little (sometimes not-so-little!) gems have made a name for themselves in customer service and fresh, quality cuisine that outshines a chain establishment in every way. 1. Boondocks Restaurant, Island Park

While diners rave about the heavenly cinnamon rolls, mouth watering calzones, and stellar homemade salad dressings here, the consensus is clear: there's a lot to rave about at this aptly-named, tucked-away restaurant. Made from scratch and always prepared with small-town love, this true mom and pop establishment will treat you right!

2. Soup Kettle Grill, Meridian

This delightfully modern restaurant in Meridian is a sweet, family-run establishment, all based upon a passed down recipe from the old country. Sweet, savory, and totally unique, you'll find soups here that honor the seasons and are made with fresh ingredients... Buffalo Chicken Gazpacho, anyone?

3. Arugula Deli, Idaho Falls

Owned by husband and wife team Marcel and Mindy Guitierrez, this little sandwich shop and restaurant is an explosion of freshness, color, and flavor in every bite, as well as the realization of a long-awaited dream. Offering a slight international twist on their creative dishes, you'll find many of the meals here have ingredients grown and harvested by the owners themselves.

4. My Father's Place, McCall

A local favorite renowned for their incredible vegetarian burgers and creamy shakes, My Father's Place began just as the name suggests and continues to be a McCall staple.

5. Spoons Bistro, Victor

For what will quite possibly be the best meal of your life, Spoons in Victor offers home-style cooking taken to the next level, served up in a quaint space that is as comfortable and inviting as your own backyard.

6. Firehouse Grill, Ammon

This family owned and operated grill is the ultimate hangout with even better food. Here, you'll no doubt meet the owner while catching up on the latest game and enjoying a well-cooked meal.

7. The White House Grill, Post Falls

Raci Erdem's family-run restaurant successfully combines Greek and Turkish roots with a whole 'lotta garlic for an incredible meal that you'll keep coming back for. To amp up the family atmosphere, you'll find yourselves in close quarters for lively socializing.

8. Mr. V's Family Restaurant, Caldwell

This 3rd generation restaurant is a hospitable, country-style café with options for every palate. Even the building itself was built by the Vavold family! Even after over 40 years in business, there are definitely good things happening here: namely, comfort food and personalized service.

9. Ramey's Broken Arrow Resort, Gibbonsville

The Ramey family has been operating their hidden gem resort for quite some time in tiny Gibbonsville, cranking out deliciously authentic Mexican cuisine alongside a beautiful country campground setting. While Ramey's is currently for sale and ready to be passed on to a new, loving owner, be sure to take advantage of this family-run retreat while you can!

10. Stanley Baking Company, Stanley

In 2003, Tim and Becky Cron’s  dream of living in the Sawtooth valley became a reality, alongside the opening of Stanley Baking Co. and Cafe. With handmade pastries and dishes so delicious the patron line often stretches out the door, this quaint mountain town gem is exactly the type of mom-and-pop shop that captures the essence of Idaho.
