Hidden in humble Oldtown, Idaho is a delicious, vintage food gem: Auggies Drivin Diner. Not "drive-in"... drivin. Why? Because this restaurant/radical food truck, er...bus, is no ordinary taco-burger-hot dog haven; it's a moveable sit-down restaurant. And as if that weren't already awesome enough, Auggies is also 80s-themed, in retro tribute to owner/chef Ben McGinnis's favorite decade of Goonies, neon, and Michael Jackson.
Check it out!
Welcome to Auggies Drivin Diner.
Here, you'll take a trip back a few decades...
Walking into (onto?) Northern Idaho's only "bustraunt," one is greeted by a sea of crisp black and white tile, teal Formica tabletops, and a "bar" that looks out the row of original windows. It's a quintessential diner experience, compacted into a mobile locale.
...And be served up some incredible mile-high burgers while you're at it.
Auggies was a four-year labor of love for owner Ben McGinnis, who started his journey with a wildly popular hot dog cart -- then called Auggie Dogs. When business kept booming and local panhandle residents kept flocking to his curbside stand, McGinnis upgraded to a small food truck. And eventually, took to the months-long process of renovating this working school bus into its current retro glory.
At Auggies, you'll find some seriously unique (and tasty) hot dogs.
From Southwestern or gyro-style dogs, to ranch burgers and "seriously tubular tacos," you won't leave Auggies hungry. Not only that, but you'll enjoy 80s movies and music playing while you dine. What more can you ask for?
Fortunately, Auggies Drivin Diner also caters, so if you want your own personal food bus south of the panhandle... order up!
As far as we can tell, this is the only restaurant of its kind here in Idaho, and possibly the country. How rad is that?!
You'll find McGinnis and his seriously awesome bustraunt just off of Highway 2. If you're ready for an explosion of flavor and a unique dining experience all rolled into one, we suggest stopping by as soon as possible!
Crowd-pleasing diner food, the 80s, plus stunning views of the Pend Oreille to go along with it... what more can you ask for in a restaurant?
