Chocolate can either cheer you up after a bad day or help you celebrate life’s happiest moments. Either way, I’d like to think that chocolate is an entirely necessary part of life. Luckily for us, Hawaii is the only state in America to grow cacao, and as a result, our beautiful islands are home to some of the country’s greatest chocolatiers. In fact, Oahu is home to not only an incredible cacao farm, but this mouthwateringly delicious chocolate bar tucked away in Honolulu. Talk about a sweet experience!
Welcome to the Lonohana Chocolate Tasting Bar, a small chocolate company that operates a small farm on Oahu as well as a tasting bar downtown in SALT At Our Kakaako.
From seed to tree and bean to bar, the entire process is controlled here, and you can truly taste the difference.
Planting their first cacao trees in 2009, this estate chocolate company now farms 14 acres of cacao by hand on Oahu’s north shore.
The company harvests the fruit, ferments and dries the beans, and then handcrafts small batches of chocolate bars every few weeks in their Honolulu factory, with no two batches ever the same.
These bean-to-bar chocolates are mouthwateringly delicious, but there are only two ways to taste it for yourself. Due to the operation’s small size and limited runs of unique bars, chocolate is released to members of the Lonohana Chocolate Club six times per year and sold at their retail store and tasting bar.
If you’ve never tasted supremely fresh chocolate before, you’re in for a treat. These chocolate bars are melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
In addition to pure chocolate bars, you will find an ever-changing array of bars with organic, Hawaiian-grown inclusions, from coffee and macadamia nuts to sea salts, fruits, and spices.
So, what are you waiting for? Whether you visit by yourself or bring your significant other for a fun, unique date, you can consider your sweet tooth satisfied after just one bite of Lonohana Chocolate.
Address: 344 Coral Street, Unit 104a, Honolulu, HI 96813
