Everything about the Hawaiian Islands screams tropical paradise, including many of our remarkable restaurants. While tiki bars can easily be considered a dime a dozen here in the Aloha State, there are few options that cater perfectly to locals and tourists alike. There’s one tiki bar, in particular, that we can’t seem to get enough of. Tucked away in a Waikiki alleyway, Cuckoo Coconuts may be considered slightly off the beaten path, but with live music, tropical drinks, and classic bar food, it will quickly become one of your favorite Oahu destinations. Let’s take a look, shall we?
This old-fashioned tiki bar in the heart of Waikiki might not have classic ocean views or even a roof, but what they lack in building structure, they make up for in charm.
These massive tiki statues welcome you to a tropical paradise you've only ever imagined in your wildest dreams.
Standard patio tables, chairs, and umbrellas become ultra-enchanting with twinkling lights and plenty of tropical themed decor, including ferns, tiki statues, and surfboards as well as a classic carved wooden bar will make you feel as though you’ve been transported back in time as you listen to live music nightly.
The stars of the show here at Cuckoo Coconuts are a pair of signature drinks sure to impress: a loco coco made with light rum, coconut rum, cream of coconut, and fresh coconut served in a real coconut and a pina colada served in, you guessed it, a real pineapple.
Of course, that’s not all you’ll find on the menu at Cuckoo Coconuts. More than 10 signature cocktails full of island flavors — from pineapple and coconut to guava, passionfruit, and Kona coffee — are served here.
You’ll also find a variety of local beers from your favorite brewing companies — including Kona Brewing Company, Aloha Beer Company, Waikiki Brewing Company, Mayi Brewing Co., and more — as well as wines made right here in Hawaii and rum, vodka, tequila, gin, and whiskey. No matter your drink of choice, you’ll find something to satisfy your taste buds at Cuckoo Coconuts.
Hungry? Serving classic bar food with a Hawaiian twist, enjoy a Hawaiian burger topped with pineapple and teriyaki sauce or an order of coconut shrimp or calamari for the table to share. You’ll also find ahi poke bowls, loco mocos, lau lau, garlic shrimp, teriyaki chicken, and more on the menu here.
You can even shop for a variety of souvenirs from their retail store right out front of the tiki bar. Need a Hawaiian shirt for an event or kitschy t-shirt to bring home? Cuckoo Coconuts has you covered.
Featuring whimsical tiki decor, scrumptious tropical cocktails, and live music every night, an evening spent at Cuckoo Coconuts can't be beat. So, what are you waiting for?
Cuckoo Coconuts is located at 333 Royal Hawaiian Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815, and is open daily from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
And if you’re looking for a truly authentic tiki bar experience unlike any other, you absolutely must add La Mariana Sailing Club to your Hawaii dining bucket list.
