From underrated eateries to upscale, oceanfront restaurants, the Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible restaurants that are loved and frequented by many. While it might be easy to assume that the restaurants found along the coast are budget busters, that’s simply not the case, especially when you consider this stellar restaurant nestled along the coast of Maui with million dollar views and pretty affordable meals — at least according to Hawaiian standards.
For traditional Hawaiian plates with large portions, and beachside patio seating, look no further than Aloha Mixed Plate. This Lahaina restaurant — once described by the New York Times as "paper-plate-meets-million-dollar-view" — has been a local favorite since it opened in 1996.
Though they’ve traded in their picnic tables and paper plates for a bar that’s doubled in size, a louvered roof (so the restaurant can stay open when it rains), sturdy tables and chairs, and ceramic plates, this casual hangout is still a must-visit on any Hawaii dining bucket list.
If you can believe it, the new and improved layout makes even more of the spectacular ocean and neighbor island views...
...and if you time your visit just right, the sunset views are truly second to none.
Even the menu is new and improved. Utilizing a range of farm-to-table produce from their very own Hoaloha Farms, Aloha Mixed Plate has elevated and modernized the traditional Hawaiian plate lunch while remaining true to their roots.
There’s truly no better way to start your day than with breakfast at Aloha Mixed Plate. Serving up island favorites with a twist, order a kalua pork omelet, fried rice loco moco, or taro hash.
Their souffle pancakes and french toast made with bread from Leoda’s will satisfy any sweet tooth’s cravings.
Enjoy updated local classics — from kimchee, kalbi ribs, and a kalua pork sandwich to shoyu chicken, coconut prawns, and saimin — as well as fun, new dishes for lunch and dinner. Salads, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and more all have a place on this menu.
Their "SPAMP" is an innovative spin on Spam, with the last three letters, "AMP," standing for Aloha Mixed Plate. This isn’t your average canned meat, though: it’s house-made, slow-cooked pork shoulder with spices, garlic, a little salt, and sugar. Order it as roll-your-own musubi or in an eggs benedict.
Wash it all down with one of their signature cocktails, local brew, housemade soda, or juice. If you want to try something new, order the Sassy Wahine, pictured below, made with sweet mango puree and blended with fresh lime, orange juice, Hornitos tequila with strawberry swirl and a rim of li hing mui.
If you haven't made the pilgrimage to Aloha Mixed Plate yet, you are truly missing out. With million dollar views and even better cuisine, it doesn't get much better than this Lahaina hangout.
