Dining out doesn't always have to mean bells and whistles in order to get a delicious, satisfying meal. In fact, it's usually those restaurants that are no-frills, no-fuss types of places that serve up the best food around. Georgia is home to tons of unassuming, small restaurants that have dishes most people rave about. We've come up with a few of our own, in order for you to keep adding to you Georgia dining bucket list.
1. Walden’s— 3186 Washington St SW, Covington, GA 30014
If you’re not looking, you just might drive past this unassuming spot. But make sure you stop. It’s delicious, real comfort food to warm your belly and make your soul happy. Try the catfish fillet for a true, homestyle meal. Or the pulled pork which is oh-so-tasty.
2. Les Bon Temps Louisiana Kitchen—248 Gilmer Ferry Rd, Ball Ground, GA 30107-2906
You wouldn’t know from the outside how dang delicious the food is from Les Bon Temps Louisiana Kitchen. In fact, many people say that the Cajun food served here is the best in Georgia. Make sure you try the gumbo, red beans and rice, and crawfish étouffée. Mmm-mmm.
3. Dinglewood Pharmacy— 1939 Wynnton Rd, Columbus, GA 31906
People will come from all over in order to sink their teeth into the Scrambled Dog at Dinglewood Pharmacy. It's a hidden hot dog gem in the heart of Columbus. Grab yourself a dog and a cherry Coke, and enjoy the simple things.
4. Hole in the Wall— 90 Town Sqare, Blairsville, GA 30516
This historic spot in Blairsville is a fan-favorite for many. It's eclectic, it's fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Not to mention, you can get a killer breakfast or lunch each time you visit.
5. Wood’s Kitchen— 1304 US-80, Bloomingdale, GA 31302
This family-owned spot is truly a hidden gem. Their baked goods are made from scratch, and their BBQ is tender, juicy, and wonderfully cooked. Wood's Kitchen is the perfect, unassuming spot to come for a delicious Sunday dinner.
6. Hungry Hillbilly’s Grill & BBQ— 340 Northview Dr, Jesup, GA 31546
Some of the best BBQ in Jesup, Georgia. They prepare their meat in a no-fuss, no-frou-frou way, and it's always grilled to perfection. Make sure you try the beef brisket with the "Hillybilly" sauce. YUM!
7. Billy’s Place—1022 E Railroad St, Ochlocknee, Georgia
There's nothing quite like a good country boil to get the soul shakin'. At Billy's Place, you can get fresh seafood and great service consistently. This is no-frills food at its best.
8. Yoder’s Deitsch Haus— 5252 Hwy 26 E, Montezuma, GA 31063
From the outside, you wouldn't have any idea how satisfying the food is on the inside. This is is cafeteria-style eats, with an incredible selection and HUGE flavor. Get the chess pie. You won't regret it.
9. Buckner’s— 1168 Bucksnort Rd, Jackson, GA 30233
This family-style Southern restaurant is the stuff dreams are made of. You can get everything from creamed corn to fried chicken to butter beans, and so much more. Everything is served on a lazy Susan and you can spin and eat until your heart's delight.
10. Matthews Cafeteria—2299 Main St, Tucker, GA 30084
Matthew's Cafeteria may just be the most unassuming place in Georgia, with some of the best food served. You can really never have a bad meal here. The chicken is always fried and fresh, and the buffet is a true thing of beauty.
11. Rico’s World Kitchen— 306 W Main St, Buford, GA 30518
From the outside, you may not consider what could possibly be on the inside. But you MUST go in and try a meal. Rico's serves satisfying home cooking like meatloaf and mashed potatoes, but still keeps things unique like their eggrolls.
12. The Southern Scratch—106 E Court St, Washington, GA 30673
Southern Scratch is oozing with Southern charm and unassuming décor. They have some pretty enticing menu options like the Deviled Eggs and Grilled Pimiento Cheese Sandwich, and also churn out sweet pastries and baked goods. Talk about a one-stop-shop.
