Perhaps it is the nostalgia of the delicious food, or the fact that in Georgia there are tons of options, but roadside restaurants are definitely worth stopping for. Especially since most of these Georgia joints are hidden gems, take a look at these roadside spots you should definitely consider making pitstop for.
1. Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand - 489 Moreland Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316
When we think of roadside restaurants, you think of staples--burgers, fries, and...chicken sausage! Delia's Chicken Sausage Stand serves delicious food straight from the kitchen to your plate. The menu alone at this roadside joint will blow you away.
2. Village Burger - 1426 Dunwoody Village Pkwy, Dunwoody, GA 30338
The Village Burger has been a go-to place for may Georgians, simply because the burgers are that darn good. You can get all the fixins your heart desires, then add their deliciously seasoned French fries, or their fried-to-perfection onion rings for a meal you’ll never forget.
3. Hildebrandt’s - 226 6th St, Augusta, GA 30901
This 19th century grocery serves up deli-style sandwiches that will take you back. No-frills and all flavor, Hildebrandt's is the kind of place where you'd sit and chow down while reminiscing about the old days.
4. Country’s Barbecue - 6298 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, GA 31909
Roadside staples in Georgia always, always include barbecue. That’s why Country’s Barbecue is such a nice stop. You will be able to feast on finger-licking-good barbecue, plus sides like mac-n-cheese and corn casserole. It’s a true Southern meal all in one fell swoop.
5. Dennis' BBQ - 3639 San Sebastian Dr, Hephzibah, GA 30815
This little roadside restaurant is a small-town gem. Make sure when you visit you try the rib plate, with a side of beans and macaroni and cheese. You won’t be upset with the food at this barbecue shack.
6. Poole’s BBQ - 164 Craig St, East Ellijay, GA 30540
This historic and fun place to eat not only has extremely great food, but the ambiance is quite entertaining. The portions at Poole’s BBQ are always huge, so get ready for a big meal worth raving about. If you need a tip, the brisket is to-die for.
7. Big Chick - 204 E Robert Toombs Ave, Washington, GA 30673
Get ready for moist, flavorful, crunchy-on-the-outside chicken from this roadside restaurant. Big Chick oftentimes has a line outside for people who are ready to feast on their famed chicken. Make sure you also order the side of cornballs—absolutely heavenly.
8. Vandy’s Barbecue - 22 W Vine St, Statesboro, GA 30458
Don’t judge a book by its cover. This no-frills roadside stop makes some of the best barbecue around. Order the plate with their incredible coleslaw, plus a bowl of the Brunswick stew. Smother everything in the famed sauce and you’ll be in barbecue heaven.
9. Nu-Way Weiners - 430 Cotton Ave, Macon, GA 31201

The original Nu-Way Weiners is a roadside restaurant that’ll have you coming back for more. The slaw-dog is worth ordering two, while the Scramble dog has some delicious chili-style topping that will require a napkin. Make sure to get it all the way for the true experience.
10. Honey from the Rock Cafe - 2621 Washington Rd, Augusta, GA 30904
The Christian-mission-based restaurant is not what you would expect, especially when you try their delicious menu. From the meatloaf to the fried green tomatoes, the creamed corn to the squash casserole, you won’t be disappointed with the food or the service here.
11. The Varsity - 61 North Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30308
You can't mention roadside restaurants and NOT have The Varsity. This famed spot serves up dogs, burgers, onion rings and fries better than you'll get anywhere else. We guarantee once you visit, you'll be back for seconds.
