There's no greater feeling than stumbling upon a small, quaint restaurant and dubbing it a delicious hidden gem. We are constantly scouring the state to find some of the best Mom & Pop restaurants that Georgia has to offer, and we're proud to say there are quite a few. You know the restaurants we're talking about...they don't advertise large scale, they don't have a huge building, or fancy decor, or a marketing budget higher than most of our salaries. These Mom & Pop restaurants cook some of the tastiest, most unique food around. Here are a few of our favorites.
1. Tipsy Pig—3020 Five Forks Trickum Rd SW, Lilburn, GA 30047
One doesn't normally equate "best BBQ around" with "that place in the Shell gas station." However, for Tipsy Pig, that's exactly what it equates to. Tipsy Pig serves up some of the most succulent, fall-off-the-bone BBQ that you can imagine, plus insanely tasty sides like Brunswick Stew and Mac 'n Cheese.
2. Owens Boarding House—106 Young Ave, Warner Robins, GA 31093
Family-style cooking like you've only had at home. Here at Owen's Boarding House, you'll likely sit next to a stranger when you're about to devour the very inexpensive All-You-Can-Eat family cooking. But what better way to make a new friend than over some delicious cuisine?
3. Willie's Fish Fry—301 W Emery St, Dalton, GA 30720
Often noted as having some of the best fried catfish in town, Willie's Fish Fry is a small shack serving up HUGE flavor. If there is one thing you try when you visit, it has to be the Catfish Bomb Sandwich. YUM!
4. Walden's Restaurant—3186 Washington St SW, Covington, GA 30014
Walden's Restaurant has a slogan that fits the bill perfectly, "Small Place, Big Taste!" If ever you're looking for tender - never greasy - fresh fried chicken, and some of the tastiest hush puppies you've ever chowed down on, then this is your spot.
5. Moon Indian Cuisine—2144 Johnson Ferry Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319
Delicious home cooked food doesn't necessarily need to stay in the realm of Southern. In fact, Moon Indian Cuisine is a small Mom & Pop shop which features flavors that your tongue has probably never tasted. Try the Tikka Masala, you won't regret it.
6. The Grit—199 Prince Ave, Athens, GA 30601
