The Hotel Alcazar is one of the most iconic structures in the state...
...so now visit to St. Augustine would be complete without a visit here.
Completed in 1888, the Hotel Alcazar was built by oil and railroad tycoon Henry M. Flagler.
The hotel is now the home of City Hall and the Lightner Museum, one of the best museums in Florida. Sometime after the hotel was closed in 1932, it was given to the city of St. Augustine as a museum housing Otto C. Lightner's personal collection.
The hotel was quite an impressive resort, with its own ballroom, spa, sulfur baths, and a gymnasium.
Here is one photo of The Hotel Alcazar pool taken in the early 1900s.
Pictured here are some guests swimming in the pool in 1905.
The cement stairways are the most obvious giveaway of the restaurant's past.
At the time it was regarded as the world's largest indoor swimming pool, measuring 120 feet by 50 feet!
The pool occupied the enter lower level of the hotel.
The transformation into one of the best restaurants in Florida is astounding.
This elegant lunch spot features white table cloths and constantly changing specials.
Not only is the atmosphere unbeatable, this upscale café is renowned for its perfectly prepared classic cuisine.
The menu here runs the gamut.
You'll find delicious options like Italian sandwiches, healthy salads, grilled fish and seafood, and much more.
And don't forget dessert!
Three of Cafe Alcazar's most popular desserts: Tres Leches cake, Key Lime pie, and Oatmeal Pie.
