Any time I can visit dog-friendly places in Florida - count me in. Why would I want to leave my pups at home when we can have an adventure together?! On my recent visit to the Gulf side of Florida, I found such a place for a fur-friend adventure. Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar in Sarasota is the perfect spot to enjoy wood-fired pizza, craft cocktails, and DOGS! Located in the Rosemary District, Boo’s Ice House and Dog Bar allows guests to indulge in a craft cocktail and some food while their four-legged friends enjoy all of the in-house amenities. And trust me when I say these amenities offer an experience unlike any other I've seen. Pizza, beer, and dozens of dogs running around tails a 'waggin'? Sounds like heaven to me.
As far as indoor dog playgrounds in Florida go, Boo’s Ice House reigns supreme. From the moment I stepped onto the lot, I recognized the care and passion put into every detail inside and out.
This unique and welcoming spot combines the joys of a social bar environment with a dedicated space for dogs to play and socialize. So essentially, it’s a win-win for both pups and their parents.
The coolest part about visiting is that you don’t need to bring a dog to enjoy! Guests without a dog can enjoy Boo’s Tavern for drinks and bites. Keep in mind you must be at least 16 years of age to enter the dog play area.
The indoor dining area at Boo's is limited to service dogs, but the rest of the establishment is open to all dogs, provided they are Boo's Pack members. Daily, monthly, and annual passes are available for membership.
All in all, Boo's offers 5,000 square feet of interior and exterior dog space, divided into gated indoor and outdoor puppy play areas. Dogs can lounge in the shade or chill in the air conditioning.
I was impressed by the sheer size of the indoor space. Complete with toys, agility equipment, and plenty of room to run and explore, it's a great place for dogs to exercise, socialize with other dogs, and burn off some energy.
Plus, it should definitely be mentioned that the staff at Boo's Ice House makes this place shine. And I don’t just mean cleaning up any messes as quickly as they happen. The dedicated team is attentive, ensuring that all dogs play safely and happily.
Did I mention there is a dedicated outdoor space, too?! On those beautiful Florida days, you can let your pup roam outside, enjoy a dip in the pup pool, and relax on the astroturf.
Now, let’s get down to the extra fun part for the humans - the food and drinks! Human visitors can enjoy various of beverages, including cold craft beers, delicious wines, and inventive cocktails.
But what really surprised me was the menu. It was HUGE! Plus, with a dedicated vegan menu, I was thrilled by the options offered. A vegan poutine?! Sign me up!
On this visit, I opted for a vegan spring mix salad - the mustard vinaigrette was to die for. The size was perfect for sharing but also for very hungry omnivores who don't want to share.
I also chose the Vegan Taking a Stroll pizza, topped with green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, vegan cheese, and tomatoes. The crust, cooked in a wood-fired oven, really elevated the flavor, and I would absolutely order this again.
Also, Boo’s has a clever dog menu too filled with items from cheese and bacon ice cream and doggy cupcakes, to meat sticks, milk bones, and a charcuterie bowl!
And make sure you check out the calendar of events here, too. Often hosting Bingo and themed nights, there's always something happening to engage both pets and their owners.
All in all, Boo's Ice House and Dog Bar is so much more than just a bar; it's a community hub for dog enthusiasts. Owners Mindy Kauffman and Bobby Boivin created a place that blends social interaction, relaxation, and fun, making it a must-visit spot for anyone in Sarasota who loves dogs and enjoys a good time.
