1. Delaware Saengerbund Oktoberfest, Newark 9/16/2016-9/18/2016
Delaware's Saengerbund Oktoberfest is a huge German festival held each year in Newark, featuring german beers and drink, and a tremendous amount of German food! This is one of the best food festivals in Delaware, so be sure to come hungry. Bratwurst, Weisswurst, and Herring are just some of the traditional foods on the menu here.
2. St. Hedwig's Polish Festival, Wilmington, 9/19/2016 - 9/24/2016
Pierogies, kielbasa and more will line the streets of Wilmington in mid-September, just like it has for the past 60 years. Celebrate this landmark anniversary with one of the most food-centric festivals in Delaware at St. Hedwig's.
3. Taste of Newark, September 25, 2016
Sample nearly everything that the Newark restaurant scene has to offer at Taste of Newark this year. One of the best foodie festivals in Delaware, you'll love trying the featured items from each restaurant, brewery, and vineyard that participates. You do need to get tickets - it's $50 for admission, which grants you sampling of over 50 vendors. What a deal!
4. Cheesetoberfest, Dover, October 8th
Cheesetoberfest is the ultimate grilled cheese cookoff, with a german twist. Held annually at Fordham and Dominion Brewing Company in Dover, this unique festival pits the best grilled cheese masters in the region against each other. Try over 30 different types of grilled cheese and help determine the winner.
5. Apple Scrapple Festival, Bridgeville, 10/14-10/15
This is the most uniquely "Delaware" festival of the year! For the past 25 years, Bridgeville has hosted this enormous food festival dedicated to the unofficial food of Delaware - scrapple! The "apple" part can't be ignored, either. You'll be sure to try some new foods here, but you can also count on fall food festival favorites.
6. Delaware Wine and Beer Festival, Harrington, October 15, 2016
Taste local brews and wines at the Delaware Beer and Wine festival, held at the State Fairgrounds in Harrington. With plenty of great microbreweries and vineyards in Delaware, this festival is an amazing one for anyone who likes to sample the products of unique brewing techniques. You'll need to get tickets, but for $35 ($40 at the door), this is a great deal and you'll be sure to talk about this festival for a long time.
