Did you know that America's favorite sandwich got its start right here in Delaware? Now, a humble little sub shop has become a national sensation. Read the story of Capriotti's below and see if you knew just how many people have fallen in love with the Bobbie.
When the very first Capriotti's opened in Wilmington in 1976, it was unlikely that the founding family realized just what a huge impact their little sub shop would have.
The original sandwich that inspired the shop - the Bobbie - is still Delaware's favorite sandwich. In 2009, it was voted "Greatest Sandwich in America" by AOL.com readers!
The Bobbie is made with hand-pulled turkey that's slow roasted every night, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayonnaise.
Capriotti's also makes more than a dozen other specialty subs, including the Capastrami, a Grilled Italian, and their delicious Homemade Meatball Sub.
In Delaware, it's rare to attend an event that doesn't feature at least one tray of Capriotti's subs! Over the past few decades, though, the love for Caps has spread across the country.
There are locations in 16 different states, and the company is now based in Las Vegas. You'll find a Capriotti's in places like Sioux Falls, South Dakota...
and in Foxborough, Massachusetts, feeding hungry football fans all winter long.
If you're traveling through Murray, Utah, you can pick up a Bobbie or a Slaw Be Jo!
Wherever you find yourself stopping for Capriotti's, whether it be in Delaware, Colorado, or Washington State, you can expect the same homestyle subs you would have found at Union Street more than 40 years ago.
Plan a trip to the Original Capriotti's on Union Street in Wilmington and try the sandwich that kicked off our home-grown sensation.
