When summer rolls around, most Delawareans try to avoid the beaches. The crowds just never seem worth it - so we try to find the quieter spots with the fewest tourists. However, sometimes our tastebuds win out and we head to Rehoboth Beach to enjoy some of the best boardwalk foods in Delaware. From classic treats to iconic only-in-Delaware foods, what will you snack on this year?

1. Dolle's Candyland Salt Water Taffy

Salt Water Taffy is the most unique treat around. Pick from hundreds of flavors at Dolle's, buy them by the pound, and then proceed to regret it just a little bit as you fight the taffy that's stuck to your teeth for hours. Totally worth it! What's your favorite flavor?

2. Fisher's Popcorn

Fisher's Popcorn is the best in the state. I could eat an entire large container of it in one sitting, I swear! Whether you pick a flavor or stick with the original, you'll love every bite. While this classic boardwalk food is a MUST on your visit to Rehoboth Beach, Fisher's also has multiple locations around Delaware so you can get your fix even when you're not at the beach.

3. Thrasher's French Fries

Remember, folks, Thrasher's French Fries are served with vinegar. If you request ketchup, you can expect to be booed out of the shop and out of town.

Made with genuine Idaho potatoes (thank you, Idaho!), this DE staple is a reward, a tradition, and a throwback treat all in one. The Rehoboth Beach location is the original, and it's been serving up smiles and fried goodness since 1929.

4. Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard

Frozen Custard is a sweet boardwalk treat - if only it didn't melt so quickly! Kohr Bros. always has a couple of cool flavors to twist together, or you can stick with a classic like chocolate with chocolate sprinkles.

5. Grotto Boardwalk Pizza

Grotto Pizza has been dishing up its signature swirl slices since 1960! This Delaware chain makes crispy crust, saucy and cheesy boardwalk pizza to die for. It's not a vacation without at least one slice...but we say grab a whole pie.

6. The Ice Cream Shop's Outrageous Flavors

When soft serve won't do, head to the Ice Cream Store. You'll have more than a hundred flavors to choose from, and you can try something different every single time.

7. Gus and Gus' Fried Chicken

Gus and Gus may look like a hot dog stand, but locals know their fried chicken is the reason to visit. Always hot and fresh, it's so worth the ATM fee if you forget to bring cash.

8. Kilwin's Chocolates

Kilwin's fudge is some of the best you'll ever try! Whether you go rocky road, vanilla, peanut butter, or something completely different, your sweet tooth will thank you for making the trip. Although you might want to save this stop for last due to the melty nature of this delicious shop.

9. The Nic-o-Boli

You can't leave Rehoboth Beach without trying the Nic-o-Boli. This delicious, crispy pizza creation put Nicola Pizza on the map!
