If you're a New York, New Jersey, or Philadelphia transplant, life in Delaware can be a little much to get used to. Sure, it's calmer, cheaper, nicer, and prettier - but it's really hard to find a good bagel. Luckily, they DO exist, and these five places scattered throughout the state can each claim to serve the best bagel in Delaware.

Surf Bagel, please never change. There is absolutely nothing in the world like walking into this tiny shop in the cutest Delaware town and letting the warm smell of freshly baked bagels just engulf you. It is heaven at the beach. 2. Newark Deli & Bagels, Newark

NDB is constantly packed - call ahead or be prepared to wait for your bagel. Any wait, however, is completely worth it. There's a reason they're so crowded, and a reason why NDB is always at the top of any "best bagel in Delaware" list. The fresh baked bagels are perfectly soft and the cream cheeses are so well mixed (try the scallion cream cheese), and their breakfast sandwiches are absolutely delicious.36 E Main St

3. Hot Bagels, Newark

While it's not easy to stand in the shadow of a giant, Newark's other popular bagel spot is absolutely worth checking out. Their Russian Black bagels are unique and delicious. Also, I think that Hot Bagels makes the best veggie cream cheese in the state.695 E Chestnut Hill Rd

4. J and J Bagels, Georgetown

If you are on a hunt for the best bagel in Delaware, you have to try J and J Bagels in Georgetown. Their freshly made bagels take their delicious breakfast and lunch sandwiches up another level, and you will be hard pressed to find a more delicious combination in the area. 5. Baked, Dewey Beach

Baked in Dewey is a wonderful little coffee shop that serves the best cupcakes, cookies and cakes around - but most people do not know about their unbelievable breakfast sanwiches. They serve them up on fresh baked bagels that prove this is not just a sweet shop. The Veggie Delight is my favorite sandwich on the menu.2000 Coastal Hwy
