Mystic Pizza was opened in 1973 by the Zelepos family in the quaint town of Mystic. While New Haven may be considered the capital city of pizza in Connecticut, this restaurant has carved out its own corner of the market in the eastern part of the state.
The movie "Mystic Pizza" was released in 1988 and this little shop was the inspiration and setting. The movie follows the lives of three young waitresses and was filmed in Mystic and neighboring towns.
After the movie release, the restaurant gained immediate popularity for movie buffs and pizza fans alike. Even today, decades after the film's debut, Mystic Pizza is a dining destination for locals and tourists alike.
The restaurant is chock full of movie memorabilia. Framed still shots adorning the walls will remind you of scenes from the film while you dine.
