But I can assure you that the locals know what is hidden behind the plain facade, because they come out in droves to sample Connecticut's best seafood every chance that they get!

Zack's Bar and Grille is located in Stonington near the Rhode Island border.

Although it looks like an older home, I assure you that this restaurant has quite a few culinary surprises hiding inside. The address for your GPS is 201 North Main St., Stonington, CT 06378

The appetizers are right on point and a fantastic start to your meal. Choose from sumptuous crab cakes, bacon wrapped scallops, fried calamari or the unparalleled sauteed calamari.

I speak from experience when I say you absolutely have to try the sauteed calamari. They are fried with a roasted garlic sauce, pepperoncinis, lemon and grated cheese. I don't how these few ingredients make such a divine dish, but this is one you won't want to miss!

Daily specials like this rosemary skewered shrimp with sweet and spicy peanut sauce add new choices to the tried and true menu.

Chef Adam is a genius in the kitchen and is constantly coming up with new ways to use seasonal ingredients to show off his skill and creativity while making diners very, very happy.

Of course, you can find the signature hot lobster roll overflowing with the sweet lobster that Nutmeggers are known to favor.

The lobster meat is warmed in whole butter, served with a butter broth, and delicious crispy fries that will fill your every craving.

Clam chowder and fish and chips are just one of the perfect pairings at Zack's Bar and Grille.

The food sings with the care that is taken in preparing it. Whether you order fish, shellfish or even a land lover's dish, you will not be disappointed.

Although you can get a mouth-watering burger or french dip, who would want to when you have lobster grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu?

Filled with sweet lobster and gooey melted cheese, this sandwich impresses with every bite.

The scallops at this restaurant are genuine Bomster Scallops and you can taste the authentic flavor.

Bomster Scallops are caught right off the coast. Within an hour of being caught, they are hand shucked and rinsed in sea water. The scallops are then vacuum packed and flash frozen right on the boat. This eliminates the chance for ice crystals on the precious seafood and keeps the taste incredibly fresh.

Although we have called Zack's Bar and Grille a seafood restaurant, they have a lot more to offer.

Duck, steaks and lamb all have their own place on the flavorful menu.

Zack's has quite a reputation for their prime rib.

This juicy, scrumptious dish is only served on Friday and Saturday nights.

Many dishes are served with vegetables and choice of rice, fries or potato of the day. Choose potato of the day, you won't regret it.

During my visit, the potato of the day was apple, blue cheese mashed potatoes. It was the best mashed potatoes I have ever eaten, ever!
